These are generic bento?

Unsure how to answer. These are Bentgo brand and not exactly like the bento lunch boxes I’m familiar with from Japan. They are sturdier and insulated. They hold small portions and are pretty compact though perhaps too big for storing within another lunch box. Hope this helps!

Can you buy extras of the “inside tray” part?

I use silicon cupcake bottoms for extra separation

The “chill” pack seems like it’s just weird plastic. Does it keep anything cold?

Good point. To me it seems too dense for just plastic, but I have never ran a timed temp test. I will say that it has to be better than nothing though.

I did send the container back because its to small for my child but I would say No. You have to back it separately
