A must have for preteens
This book was perfect timing for my daughter who will (probably) be getting her first phone in a few weeks when she starts middle school. The book is geared toward kids but very helpful for adults as well. My daughter doesn’t like to read much but she was drawn to the characters who are very relatable. There are tons of great tips for navigating social skills via text, staying safe on social media and using the many apps for learning and good health. It is clear the author has a lot of experience with kids and the real-world challenges they face. I don’t think I realized how unprepared we were before reading this book and I know we will be referring to it time and again in the coming years. Highly recommend

A must-have for preteens, teens, parents, and teachers for safe and responsible first phone use.
This book is critical guide for all families buying their children a first phone. Important issues such as safety, social media, passwords, internet searching, and self-care are addressed in a clear and relatable manner that will appeal to preteen/teens and their parents. Humor is used to make this book an easy read. I only wish I had this book when my own children started using their personal phones. Dr. Pearlman’s advice should be shared with all. I will be buying this book as gifts for many family/friends. It is also a great book for teachers and classrooms. Highly recommend.

A Fantastic, Fun, Helpful Book
This is a fun, helpful book. If you're a parent getting a kid their first phone, you should read this book--and share it with your child. Phones can be helpful, but they can also be harmful, and they are designed to distract. Some of the things kids can access through their new phones can also depress and debilitate them. This book is a great guide through the perils and possibilities and it offers up tips and techniques that you probably never thought of, and will probably want to use. It's also a good companion for children--like Virgil and Beatrice guiding Dante through the Inferno and Paradiso--as they enter the world of digital communication. This will help make your kids thoughtful users of their devices.

This book could save lives!
This book could save lives! When my children were preteens and teenagers, communication was usually between them and others they knew from family, school and the community at large. The Internet dimension via cellphone is only a couple decades old. But instead of only being able to connect with their local community and friends the world is their oyster, both for good and sometimes evil. At such an early age, children are not always able to distinguish the intentions behind an Internet connection. This book not only gives them clear and caring insight, but also can enhance the relationship of their parents regarding their phone use
