I am very happy with this purchase, but if you are looking for an all-in-one complete program, then this is most likely not a good fit. That being said, this program worked perfectly for my 1st grade homeschooler. I use this as a guide of sorts to keep structure in our program (or I will wander off into tangents with the wealth of information available). I use each lesson as a starting point then supplement with books, mini lessons, or science videos. We don’t necessarily follow the timeline if it’s a subject of interest or if it’s a topic I want to expand or focus on. The units are very creative in getting the student to think critically. For instance: the unit on external animal characteristics has them observe and draw a bird then note it’s external parts and discuss what they’re used for. The next lesson is on researching other birds and what differences/similarities are noticed. Again, you discuss why the animal’s body parts are the way they are. The next unit is on plant parts. The unit after that has the student come up with a solution to a human problem that can be modeled after/ based on a plant or animal part they learned about. It is subtle, but so beneficial!

I do appreciate this book for Homeschool use however it is rare that a first grader would do Science ever single day. There are a lot of different part to this book but I in my opinion this might be a little more advanced that 1st grade. We did some out of this book but we will continue using it for 2nd and see how far we get.

This book is fine. However not at the reading level of a 1st grader. My son reads very well and was even in a "higher" reading class when in Kindergarten, but this book is above his reading level. They use words that no 1st grader can define and it is frustrating when the word "Extrapolate" is used rather than a simpler sentence. The 1st half of the book seems harder than the 2nd half so far. Not fully through it yet. I just wish it would be written in a way for a 1st grader to easily understand.
