Effective if used diligently
We discovered gopher problems after doing extensive landscaping. They were leaving mounds of dirt and eating plants from above and below. I tried repellent balls (garlic/peppermint) and they did nothing. So it was time to try these. After using about a dozen of these, the gopher problems is about 90% addressed. We very rarely see mounds and plants are mostly left alone. We do occasionally see a mound/hole and a plant does occasionally go missing, but I believe it would have been far worse without using these. The key, I believe, is to very frequently check for fresh mounds/holes and ideally you can put the gasser in very soon after the gopher has made the hole so they’re close by. If you discover the mound hours after it was made and the hole is plugged, you have no idea whether the critter is far away by then and with an extensive tunnel network, the gas may never get to them. This is why I think it took roughly a dozen sticks before we were able to kill or discourage them from staying in our yard. Some sticks may have been duds, the gophers may have departed the area - hard to say. But we were persistent and again, checked often for new activity and treated as soon as we saw fresh activity. I even saw the head of one once and dirt being chucked out of the hole. If I had a BB gun I may have tried to shoot the sucker, but I don’t have one, so the gasser had to do. But at least I knew he was right there. Again, based on my observations, I think it’s likely we still have a gopher around and I’ll continue to gas as I see fresh holes. But I think initially we must have had a few based on the number of holes we were seeing. Guessing we killed a couple/some, but didn’t get every one. Compared to paying a trapper, this is much more affordable. Not foolproof, but based on my experience, definitely provides some benefits even if not total extermination.

This worked great, moles didn’t come back.
These worked very good for our moles in our yard. You can only use one in each hole. Be sure that you dig the dirt out that the mole has pushed up and find the tunnel with both open ends underground. Then set the gasser horizontal so each end is open in a tunnel and light it. It will shoot the gas smoke both ways for at least a minute if not longer. It only does that if you find the tunnel that goes through. If you don’t get it in the tunnel, then it will shoot smoke on one side and then the smoke will start coming back out. If that happens, just put a bucket over it that gives it a little air to keep the fuse going. If you find the tunnel, you will see very little smoke come out of the hole that you put the gas are in. I thought it was kind of like Fourth of July celebration for Mr. Mole RIP

Would buy again
Works great. Love that the nice long fuse is already attached. 4 stars because you have to retrieve the spent cartridge or you will hit them with the mower. Would buy again though.

these are effective
i think i am controlling pocket gophers with these. little devils make a series of nice, round holes down to the hell from whence they come. you light the fuse, drop it in the hole, fuse up, then throw a pat of dirt on top and tamp it with your foot to seal it. then seal off any holes you see leaking gas out. that puts a stop to activity in my yard for upwards of two weeks...before they regroup in my neighbors jungle stronghold and start the next invasion. a side note, amazon suggestions for the review include taste and odor. maybe mankind still does have a chance against ai...

Not worth the money
Set your money, these do not work like they should, they put out a minimal amount of gas.

important note
This item will not work alone..at least not for me...I decided to give it some help and used a 5-shot roman candle firework and shot down the hole and then placed the gas down the hole and covered it with a sand bag....if the sand bag was not moved or gone around by a gopher the next day...you won !! It worked every-time..!

Looks like they are holding their own
Could be just what will bring salvation to my garden and veggies. After years of combating the moles with traps, sketchy irritating sounds, lethal bait and expensive ineffective grub deterrents, these fellahs seem to be knocking out the subterranean criminals predating on my plants. Here’s hoping.

Got rid of the gophers
I’ve been fighting with these gophers for about two years now this is the only thing I have found that has actually worked. I bought three packages.
