Q: Is the nib gold plated?

There is a good version and a silver version. The gold version (I bought a fine nib) is gold plated. The silver version (I wanted an extra fine) is silver plated.

Q: Does this pen seem like a dry writer? One review seemed to suggest the fine nib requires pressure to get a decent flow.

I have two of these pens; one with “gold” accents and one with steel. The steel accented pen is the better writer. They are definitely not wet writers but not really dry writers either. The #8 nib provides a better writing experience than the #6 nib that comes with the original 159. There are YouTube videos that teach you how to make your pen write wetter. These Jinhao 159’s are a great value. At these prices I don’t mind tinkering a bit to get the writing experience that is satisfying to me. I hope this helps.
