how wide is each strip?

wide enough for 8 X 10 frames and other picture portraits. I used 4 strips in each corner for my heaviest wall decor and it remained still with no visible strips or bulkiness.

does it leave residue if we take it off?

I have never had any residue left. As long as you remove the whole sticky strip, it is clean.

Can these be used for wood signs?
