are these on a nice thick paper?

Yes. Mine were printed on a shiny thin cardstock. It was thicker than copy paper, but not as thick as matte cardstock. It may be photo paper? I returned them. Not because they weren't nice quality, but I ordered three different sets and decided to keep a different set (of 6) and return the other two sets.
