Yep ... the action tube tool sucks, but the product ROCKS.
In order to install this forend device, you have to remove whatever forend is on the weapon you're putting it on. In order to do that, you have to remove the circular nut at the end of the magazine/action tube that holds the forend in place. The product comes with a polymer/plastic cylinder tube tool with different size tabs on both ends that slip into the grooves on the nut, and allow you to screw it into/out of the end of the action tube. Problem is, if you have to apply ANY significant twist pressure to loosen or tighten the nut, the little tabs break off like styrofoam, making the tool completely useless. Fortunately for me, it didn't break until I'd already gotten the stock forend off, and installed the Nightstick. It broke when I was having some trouble re-installing the barrel, and tried to remove the nut again to check my installation. Fortunately, I corrected the issue with the barrel without having to remove the Nightstick ... now I don't have to worry about it until I want to take the Nightstick off again, e.g., to do maintenance on the weapon. Already found/ordered a stainless steel version of the tool for $15, also on Amazon. So, why am I still giving the product five stars? Because the cheap/free install tool is just an annoyance that you will most likely only use once anyway. The product itself is awesome. After having a little trouble making sure the batteries were installed/seated correctly, everything worked exactly as the manual says ... flawless. Hold down button on either side for "momentary" function (e.g., "on" with button pressed, "off" when button released). Quick clicks for steady on/off. Hold down one side, quick clicks on other side to cycle through light only, laser only, light/laser together functions (anyone who can't figure that out probably shouldn't be owning/handling guns in the first place). Hold down both sides until the light flashes ... master battery/switch on/off. My only criticism of the thing is that the normal "wobble" of the OE forend is made more noticeable by the extra length/weight of the Nightstick, but that's just the way the OE action is set up/works ... didn't expect the Nightstick to fix/change that, and this is a shotgun after all ... not a scoped target competition or hunting rifle. If what you want is a simple, elegant tool you can add to your weapon that will not only fully light up any area you're pointing at with the click of button located at the fingertips of your pump/support hand, but also put a super-bright green laser dot pretty damn near the exact spot your weapon's projectile(s) will hit when you pull the trigger, you definitely want this device. I haven't sighted the thing in yet, and don't expect it to be as precise as, e.g., pistol laser sights, but I already know it will be MORE than "close enough" for a shotgun. This product is very well-designed/constructed, and feels/works great on the weapon. I couldn't be more pleased. Well played, Nightstick!

Great modification! Worth the cost!
Install on my shockwave was very straight forward. I did not use the included tool, I had my own. One tip on the batteries, you must remove both batteries and flip them and then install the positive side toward the light. Tighten the battery cover with a flat head screwdriver all the way. Buttons work great with laser, light, both, and momentary as options. No strobe which I prefer. I used a 12ga laser boresight to align with the green laser, I'm sure it will need adjustment after extended use but it holds zero and is highly visible at 7 yards. Adjustment screws are the same as found on other lasers. Light is bright and hallway/room filling.Regarding the strap, which is included and is optional but recommended due to the function of the shockwave, I have large hands, and using the inside screw holes gave a snug fit barehanded, outside screw holes would be ideal if using thick gloves. I will add here, agreeing with other reviews, I would like to see more than one mounting screw point on both ends of the strap for a couple of reasons.I would highly recommend this item as a forend, light, laser combo! It will save you from having to add other rails with an all-in-one solution to your build.

Worth every penny.
If you're on the fence over whether or not to add this to your shotgun. For me, it was worth every penny. After years of installing picatinny rails and Velcro straps to my 40-year-old Mossburg 500 for lights, lasers and pressure pads, this is finally what I needed all along. It's very well made and gives me bright light and a target when I choose. And I wanted something that used batteries that I can stockpile since I may not be able to charge it or remember to charge it. Install took only about ten minutes.

Functions as it should
I was somewhat hesitant to purchase from an "unknown" (to me, anyway) brand for my primary SD firearm. I've not put it through the paces yet but I can give an initial opinion that will hopefully be useful to customers that were in my shoes.Pros - It's sturdy, the material has mass and weight an feels substantial in your hand. The material used and the bulbous shape of the fore end lends me to believe it is as least as sturdy as the stock fore end (Mossberg shockwave 590S). The universal (Remington & Mossberg) tool included is made of metal, fits properly and will no go into my smithing toolkit. The light and laser are more than sufficiently bright and easy to operate via the intuitive ambidextrous control buttons on both port and starboard sides.Cons - I'm pretty handy. I can build houses, do plumbing, weld, build furniture, etc. There isn't much I can't (eventually) figure how to make work. Despite this, after initial installation of the unit, the light would turn off whenever I cycled the firearm. I checked everything twice (including checking voltage on batteries and reinstalling them) to no avail. I broke down and called CS and the nice lady who answered (nice to speak to a person) took down my concern and, after putting me on a brief hold, came back with this suggestion - "make sure you screw in the battery cap ALL THE WAY. When you think it's on all the way, try to screw it down a little more. Turns out that the cap fells like it's bottomed out and fully screwed on but if you really muscle it you can get almost 3/4 more rotation on it. This solved the problem and the light stays on in all modes under even violent racking. I would suggest that this be incorporated into their installation instructions as some customers may simply assume the product defective and attempt a return/exchange.The light controls are perhaps a little too big in that you may inadvertently press one or both in the heat of the moment but that's a personal thing ( I have large hands). The light controls fell good to operate but also feel like they may be a bit flimsy - as though I might press a hole into one with my fingernail without meaning to. Time will tell.I haven't yet zeroed mine and don't expect much precision given the inherent slop in the racking mechanism to which the unit is attached. For my purposes of home defense in close quarters, I'm sure I can get it more than close enough to serve effectively.I will try to remember to follow up after putting it through its paces.
