What are Munchables?

Munchables are sensory chewable jewelry that is ideal for diverting chewing from fingers, clothing, hair, or other items. The Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists recognizes Munchables for their ability to “replace inappropriate chewing behavior and to provide potential regulating effects for the sensory system - reducing fidgeting and promoting attention and focus.” (2019)

Our chew necklaces, bracelets, zipper pulls and pencil toppers act as stylish sensory aids that not only divert chewing, but provide a focal point which can help kids filter out extra sensory information. This can help children with self-regulation. There is a great deal of research that supports clinical observations by OTs that having something in one’s mouth to chew or suck on can provide a calming, organizing, and focusing response (Scheerer, 1992). Munchables can be especially beneficial for children with ADHD, anxiety, autism or sensory processing disorder.

Which Munchable is right for my child?

Munchables offers an extensive range of chew necklaces, bracelets, zipper pulls and pencil toppers. While most of our styles were designed with kids in mind, we have several options that would also be appropriate for adults, such as the Lotus, Tree, Leaf, Scribbles, Surfboard, Rectangle and Triangle Pendant. For more aggressive chewers, we suggest the Donut, Scribbles or Yummy Gummy Pendants.
