Q: is this a 6 core laptop?

Yes, it is 6 cores. I have it running a Sony 65 inch AG8 4k. The only thing I have noticed is a little slow when streaming movies, however it doesn't last long (like a few seconds when it changes scenes). But that is only due to the Video card. It is barley noticeable. I wish I would have oversiszed the video card. But I still love the laptop and it does everything I wanted it to do and surprisingly runs better than expected. Time will tell if overtime it will get worse. But for now that is my only draw back. I bet I can fix this by tweaking the Video card a bit, Which I have not had the time to try yet.
