Little Giant Velocity, Aluminum Ladder, 22 ft Reach, 15422-001

I ordered this so that I can do some remodeling on my house (exterior). The box was heavy and some minor damage, but no internal damage. Ladder is heavy and strong. I was able to extend the A frame up to my garage ceiling. I didn't fully extend it to reach at 22ft. The side locking mechanism is good. The two top push in lock in mechanism is somewhat a little bit hard to deal with; I great it at a great discount ($197 + California Tax = $212) vs Homedepot/Lowes it would cost me $289. After I bought it, Amazon raised it up to $387/9. Overall, I was happy to buy it on Amazon Prime day. Great discount, good strong ladder, and very useful. Cons: it's somewhat heavy. Make sure you don't drop the ladder and get your hands/arm stuck. Watch video(s) on how to extend/retract the ladder for safety use.

I found out about this ladder from my electrician, who drove his small sedan to our house to redo our service two stories up on the back wall of our house. When he finished the job and started loading his things into the car, I asked him how he was going to get the ladder back with no roof rack. I was shocked when he fit it right into his back seat! I have since bought one myself, and I've already used it folded for things like dry-walling my 14 foot high ceiling, putting up new downspouts for my rain catchment system, and caulking some exterior windows that I built. Things I like about it include: - Folds up to a small size for transportation and storage - Multiple configurations - Wide base for a more solid foundation - Wide top for better balance against the wall - Sturdy - Not too heavy - locks click into place by themselves, so you don't need four arms to use it The main downside is that it can be unwieldy to lift up to a vertical position once its extended because when it is so long, the leverage is working against you as you try to lift it up. But if you try to extend it once its already standing up, it can be hard to balance at the same time you are trying to lift it. Having another person could help with this, but I've always managed it on my own. It helps to be tall too. This is the kind of thing that you view as a good investment: you spend a little more money only once, but know that this will be the only ladder you will need for the rest of your life, and that it will make your life a lot easier from here on out!

I purchased the Little Giant 22' velocity ladder to clean out the gutters on the house since the task was ignored for 2 years and from rainfall water pouring out at unlikely points it was an obvious sign of blockage. I'd rented a ladder for clearing the gutters the last time and on top of the inconvenience of having to both pick it up and return it along with strapping it to my vehicle for transporting, it cost me $50.00 to rent it! I've wanted a Little Giant ladder for many years and with facing another rental moment I figured that now was the time to finally purchase one. The ladder arrived quickly since I have Amazon Prime and my gutters were cleaned out promptly. Now I must admit that I was a little intimidated on how exactly to open and secure the ladder in its multiple positions even though I had watched many videos and read all of the reviews, I still experienced reluctance and uncertainty. It may have been me, but I lacked the confidence at first in using this ladder. In the videos and tutorials the demonstrations whizzed through everything so very quickly that I thought it was a no brainer. That wasn't the case for me. The ladder was also not as light as I had read that it was so be prepared to involve another person if the ladder needs carrying in some situations or if the ladder is to be fully extended. It's just a better and safer idea. The videos and tutorials made it sound as if everything was a "one man show". I am a 210 lb man who stands 5 ft 10 in. Also wall climbing this ladder fully extended nearing the top of the climb the latter seemed a little unsturdy. But overall I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase and the versatility of this ladder and the promise of many future uses. I am just giving it completely honest review. This ladder is a very ingenious design and for its price and multiple uses and applications I do highly recommend it as there is nothing else on the market like it. Goodbye old fashioned standard ladders whether they be made of wood, fiberglass or aluminum the standard ladder has met its match!

The 26-foot model appealed to me, but I wasn't sure if I could lug it around okay, and it was potentially more dangerous than the 22-foot model. When I rolled the 22-foot model behind me, the pressure of the edge of the rung hurt my fingers so much that if I had to go 100 yards, I'd drive with it sticking out of my trunk. I've learned that if I stand with my hand at my side and the palm toward the rear, I can stoop and hook my fingers under the rung just off the ground. That's a rounded surface. I can easily tow it 200 yards on grass or pavement. The extension latches often failed to set, and I might have to hit them painfully hard. Motor oil made a big difference. A cotton swab can be used to apply it to the extension latches and the hinge latches. Using it as an A ladder, I can stand at 7 feet with my knees against the top rungs for stability. Because the base is big, 1/2” boards will shim it pretty well. To make it rock solid, I can add shingle tabs to shim it in 1/8” increments. Once, I came down because it didn't feel right. It looked pretty straight, but a plumb line showed that it was leaning to one side. With several feet of cord to tangle, it would be inconvenient to use a plumb bob each time I moved the ladder. My pocket knife has a belt clip. I clip it to a dog-tag chain ( 30” of ball chain ) and wear it as a pendant. I can check the ladder by holding the pendant at arm’s length, as in the photo. My house has 10’ ceilings. I love this ladder indoors because it’s more stable than my step ladders. Before bringing it indoors, I clean the feet, and rungs. This ladder is unexpectedly useful for standing on the ground to paint. It serves as a stable table whose platform can hold my pail at the most convenient height. With one hand free, I can easily switch hands, either because one hand is tired or because the other is in a better position. I used this ladder once to go onto a roof. There’s a little play in the hinges. To step onto the ladder to come back down, I first grabbed the rails. As I stepped onto the rung, the hinge flexed slightly, allowing the top to move slightly toward the ridge, throwing me off balance so that I was pushing the top toward the ridge. A movement like that could cause the bottom to slide away from the house. Now that I know the danger, I could probably use the Little Giant safely for that purpose, but I prefer a rigid ladder.

I don't know about other folks, but I have a few ladders around the house. Each have their own purpose. We recently had to move and the new place requires that I do more maintenance than the previous one. One thing is keeping the gutters clear and we have a ton of trees around the house. My choices were between my 6 foot aluminum step ladder that is so old that I feel life threatened standing on it or a 30 foot extension ladder that I'd have to lean against the gutters to get up there and it is a real pain to move around. My old step ladder just isn't high enough to get up there and I was saying to myself that, unfortunately, I have to buy yet another ladder for this task. So I decided that if I had to buy another ladder, I should try and get something more versatile, that replaces them all. And hence I decided upon this one and I am actually quite pleased with my choice. I feel very safe on this ladder no matter what height it is set at. It is heavier than I am used to compared to my old, scary, step ladder. But still a whole lot less cumbersome than lugging my old extension ladder from point to point. I like how I can conform this to be closer to what I need in given conditions. However, it does take a little effort to get it the way you need it to be. But it is worth the effort having the feeling of sturdiness when I am up on it. I like that a person can get up on either side when you need an extra hand. But it is also sad that I do not have a shelf on it when I am up on it alone and need a place to set something down. I know they have a shelf that you can buy as an extra for it, but in looking at it and how it mounts, I wonder how it stays level if the ladder is in a 90 degree leaning position. So I may just fabricate something myself that works for me in different conditions. I don't care for the tool belt thing as it always seems to get caught on stuff trying to maneuver around and can throw you a bit off balance. In manipulating it, heed the warnings. The components have some weight to them and when steps are passing each other, it is easy to get fingers, wrists or even arms in a position that can get a guillotine whack. You just gotta take it easy and thoughtfully when you are articulating it. At the end of the day I feel it was an excellent purchase for me. The ladder is a bit heavy and if you have a lot of moving around it can make you feel like you are doing much more work than the task at hand. It is sturdy and gives me a feeling of stability when I'm on it. It covers many configurations that pretty much replaces the ladders I had to work with before. It doesn't replace a kitchen step stool for simple reaching tasks. All in all, I like it a lot. Better shelf ideas would be a plus.

I was cautiously optimistic when I bought this ladder. I have a lot of things that need to get done on the outside of my house and I need the versatility this ladder offers. I have to get to 1st and 2nd story windows for caulking and this ladder is as easy to carry, maneuver, adjust, and position as I could ask for. It is even easy to fold, carry and put away at the end of a long, hard day, even though it is a bit heavy for me. A neighbor saw me struggling with picking up the ladder at the end of a long, hot day and brought his aluminum ladder for me to use. The next day I took it out and propped it up. It was easy to carry, lightweight, that felt great! As I set a foot on the ladder I noticed it shake from side to side, it appeared to do so because the base of the ladder is so narrow. It was scary to be on this shaky ladder. The Little Giant Ladder does not shake, ever. I will no longer get frustrated having to pick it up and lug it around,. I had also gotten frustrated with the flared legs which sometimes make the ladder placement more difficult. They also make safety and stability a priority so I won't complain about them anymore either. Be careful when adjusting the ladder, I squashed my thumb once and a part of my finger once. One of the types of danger is with any adjustable ladder but this type is a little heavier. I just didn't pay enough attention, not the products fault. I recommend this ladder to anyone that needs an adjustable ladder that is safe and secure.

It's vital to have a ladder tall enough to extend beyond the roof line. A plus that this is also a step ladder. It is on the heavy side so care must be taken in handling it.

This is a fantastic ladder system for some of the higher off the ground projects. I was able to easily position it to get next to the wall and install speakers (extending one side out so it looked like a slide from the side). It is reasonably easy to carry (it is not as heavy as it looks), but there are also wheels, if you wish to use them. I found it easier to simply bend my knees, hook my hand over my shoulder, then grasp the rings of the ladder--stand up and walk to where I needed to go. Due to the wide placement of the lower part of the ladder, it is extremely stable, no rocking or shaking once set up and "wiggled" into place. I found extending the ladder a bit of a challenge until I figured out how to re-set the orange "rockers" to lock the step into position. Reading the directions would probably have helped. The absolute best thing I love about this ladder? It can stand up by itself in storage (no leaning against something). It is very versatile, especially for higher, awkward places. The only thing I would consider changing is the rung depth. The rungs are a tad narrow (bare feet are NOT a good idea). However, to make them deeper, that would add weight--which I definitely would not want. So it's a reasonable trade off.

Great versatile product, as described , very sturdy ladder and can be used in multiple ways, as others have commented it is a bit heavy, but lighter than most completive products. Easy to store and wheels certainly assist when moving.

Una escalera muy útil por las formas de uso que se le puede dar, es pesada en relación a una escalera convencional, y para el manejo de una sola persona. La entrega en esta ocasión fue tardada. Recomiendo para quien necesite alcanzar casi 6 metros en su modo extendido y 3 metros en forma de A y aproximadamente 1.7 metros para transportar o almacenar. Las ruedas son útiles para moverla pero en espacio amplio, ya que hay que ponerla muy recostada para que hagan contacto con el piso.

I love this ladder for personal use around a 2 storey house. It is very stable when fully deployed as extension ladder and it deploys fast. As others have commented it is a bit heavy but it comes with the height and stability. Happy with my purchase.
