Mama’s milk has always been a part of Jack’s life, but that’s changing now that he’s a toddler, and that’s hard. But Mama’s cuddling arms, lullaby voice, and thump-thump heartbeat won’t change, even when the milk is gone. The end of breastfeeding can be a deeply emotional transition for a mother and child: a major source of comfort for a child is going away, as is a big component of a woman’s identity as a mother. This book addresses the psychological aspects of weaning, focusing on the mother-child relationship and additional ways a mother provides comfort. This book is for toddlers and moms who are getting ready to start weaning, or are already in the process of weaning from breastfeeding. “ Loving Comfort is about the life of a nursing relationship for a mother and her son. With beautiful illustrations and wisdom from a mother who has been there, Loving Comfort is as much for mothers as it is for children who are learning about weaning. ” — Jessica Barton, MA, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Review: The only weaning book you need - Loved this book. Best weaning book I've come across
My 18 month old has been really struggling with the weaning process, so I bought a few books to see if there might be something in one of them that she could relate to. There aren't many options out there, but this was far and away the best I've come across. My kiddo regularly asks for the book and understands it. The writing is simple, but straightforward and very clear, and reflects the situation in her life. After the first couple times we read it she got one of her dolls and showed the doll the book and said, "milk" then shook her head and said "no milk." So it's apparent to me that she gets it and it gives me something to refer back to when she's adamant about wanting milk, and while our struggle didn't go away overnight it's gotten easier. I don't think that's 100% due to this book but I do think it was a huge help. Pictures are great, love that the dad is prominently featured. Highly recommend.

Touching story, but didn’t work for us
The book didn’t help us in weaning, but the story was very nice, realistic, and touching. Both me and my toddler very hugging and crying at the end :) She never wanted to reread it though

Helping my 21 minth old
I am on a slow weaning journey with ny son. Hes 21 months old and I think he understands the weaning process more after we have read this a few times. I have found it helpful and we will keep reading it.

Beautiful book
This book is a beautiful story and so well written. It actually makes me tear up at the last page! At first when I read this to my almost 2 year old son it seemed to just make him ask to nurse while reading it as the first part of the book does show the character Jack nursing very often. He does like it more now after I have read the whole thing to him but it is a long story and the weaning part is a little too vague in my opinion for him to really grasps and relate to. I just add in more as I read to him to explain it how he would relate and hoping it helps us transition.

Not great for Mother led weaning
This is a very sweet book and my toddler enjoyed reading it, along with a couple of others during our night weaning process. My issue with the book is that the toddler in the book just gets too busy to nurse, chooses not to ask for it and gradually stops of their own accord. I have heard anecdotes of this happening with some children. However, that was not my experience with either son. My oldest was 2.5 when we weaned, I was 7 months pregnant and not producing milk but he had no intention of stopping. My youngest will be 3 in a few weeks, still nurses before naptime and bedtime and seems to have no intention of stopping anytime soon. My body is telling me it is time to wean my almost 3 year old and I bought this book about 6 months ago hoping to guide my son in this process. While it addresses that kids can be unhappy if they have to wait to nurse, it doesn't really address what it's like when they are told that they can no longer nurse at all. Instead the mom delays when the kid can nurse and eventually the kid just stops asking. That just wasn't my experience with nursing. However, I do think my son got something out of it in the early stages of weaning when I began to set limits about when we would nurse, but I hope it didn't set him up with false expectations of how our nursing journey will end. The message from the author at the beginning and end of the book is sweet and encouraging. Weaning is difficult for mother and baby! But, so far in my experience, it's harder on mom than it is on the babes. It's never as hard as we expect, as long as we prepare the kids. They are so resilient and amazing!

Tolles Buch!

Best book for the transition!
My 2 year old LOVED this book. When it finally came time to quit nursing she actually quoted the book - that she’s “a toddler growing bigger and stronger everyday just like Jack!” It was so sweet and really helped so much in ending our nursing journey and easing the transition.
