Cracking the CrossFit Open: How to Outperform Your Peers in Every Workout

Well-organized and full of insights
After about a year of dabbling with CrossFit, I finally started training consistently a few months ago. Until now, I mostly read short blog posts on BOXROX and similar sites to keep myself motivated and learn more. With this book, I finally feel like somebody has put in the effort to organize all of this information in one place. The author is not reinventing the wheel, so if you are very experienced, you may know many of the suggestions from this book. For me however, it gave me a lot of new ideas about ways to become better. The Training section was particularly helpful. The author breaks down the training into three components: strength, skills and conditioning. He then proceeds to describe the best ways to develop each of the three: namely, structured and varied strength training (which I know from my previous experience with lifting weights), repetitive reinforcement for skills training (I was seriously neglecting this, omitting important movements for weeks at a time), and intervals/progressions to improve conditioning.Overall an enjoyable read with plenty of helpful tips I will try implementing in my training.

For crossfitters
For athletes out of crossfit this book is probably not worth the time to read. For CrossFit people thinking first or second regionals this book is for you. For people very serious about Open placement this is for you. It teaches you how to think and plan to compete at crossfit.

Very useful and easy to read
I started CrossFit training about one year ago. I improved my strength and endurance a lot during the first months of training but then I felt like I hit a wall. At a time I felt like I couldn’t improve further at CrossFit I read Oliver Norris’ book and found it extremely helpful. The tips from the book are exactly what I needed to develop my skills. I recommend the book to anybody who wants to improve their CrossFit performance, no matter whether beginners or experienced CrossFitters. The book is also very well written, organized and easy to read. The text is far from being dull despite being about workout and nutrition etc. and kept me excited from the beginning to the end.

Competing in CrossFit Open 2018
This book showed me that I have had the wrong approach to CrossFit for long time. I competed in CrossFit Open 2015, with high expectation of myself, but with bad results. I had no idea the importance of power output and the significance of mastering about 15 primary CrossFit movements. Power output lets you finish your exercise in good time without scaling and these 15 movements dominate Open, in a much greater way than anywhere else in the CrossFit world such as WOD, Regionals and Games. After reading the book, I think anybody who takes CrossFit seriously should compete in Open because there you have the truest benchmark of health and fitness one can find.See you on the leaderboard next year!

Highly recommended for readers hoping to improve their CrossFit performance
Bought this recently published book in August 2017 as I am interested in improving my performance in CrossFit which I took up in 2016. Overall, I was very impressed with the insights and tips provided in this book and am certain that they will help me achieve better results in my WODs going forward. The book is easily read and well structured so one can quickly find information that one wishes to refer to. Highly recommended.

Covering the SPORT of CrossFit
Within the CrossFit world, there are heated debates about CrossFit as it was intended "training for the unknown and unknowable" vs the Sport as we see today. Also, a lot of the regular members going to different affiliates hate the games! However, like it or not, it has become a sport into itself and even within the varied events, there are a lot of similarities. The author does a great job of breaking down what the events, pointing out the common denominators. A must read for everyone involved in this world, competitor or not!

Awesome. An unique approach to Crossfit, with excellent ideas to customize your own periodization trainig program
Great analytical approach to the preparation for the Crossfit Open. Especially helpful to me, since I have a tendency to loose focus without a good preparation strategy. What I also find extremely useful are the specific practical ideas for the every day workout routine, including a food section and material recommendations. This book has a very unique approach and therefore just what I needed to get me started for the Open 2018!
