3 Years Later, This Foam Roller Is Still the Best I've Tried
I've been using this foam roller for over three years, so I feel it's finally time to write an honest review. For context, I'm 41 years old, stay active, and exercise regularly. I occasionally deal with neck and back pain, and muscle soreness after workouts. A well-known orthopedic doctor recommended this type of firm foam roller, and it has become an essential part of my recovery routine. Before buying this one, I tried several other foam rollers, but none were as effective. The firm density provides deep muscle massage and really helps release tension after exercise. What I like most is its versatility. I use it on my back, shoulders, hips, glutes, legs, and calves. It works well for all of these areas and has become one of my favorite recovery tools. I will say that when I first started using it, it was quite uncomfortable because of how firm it is. However, after using it consistently, my muscles adapted, and now I actually enjoy the deep tissue massage it provides. The durability is also impressive. After more than three years of regular use, it has maintained its shape and firmness with no signs of breaking down. It's solid, well-made, and clearly built to last. Overall, if you're looking for a high-quality, firm foam roller for muscle recovery and don't mind the intensity at first, I highly recommend this one.

firmer than any roller on the market but please make even firmer one!
2. UPDATE: I've graduated from the extra firm roller, I use it morning before work and evening after work and I barely feel the pain from the roller itself. It has helped me immensely but the physically demanding nature of my work still causes pain and now I need something even firmer. If the manufacturers of RumbleRoller want a test subject to go even harder please consider me. I would be interested in something even more solid and perhaps with more protruding, longer textures. It used to really hurt using the extra firm and now I've gotten so used to it, I can barely feel it now. 1. It took a long time for me to find this roller. I do have a firm roller but it has very little texture and the ones that do have texture have little firmness. This is perfect. I've searched high and low for an extra firm roller with long enough textured bumps (even spikes would do) to penetrate and get all the knots. I started searching wood products (yes that firm) and found nothing, even stainless steel (oh yeah, I'm not kidding)! I had reservations about this product, thinking it wouldn't be firm enough. I love it. The muscle pain I experience on daily basis can only be helped with deep tissue extra hard pressure and this roller gets those spots. Yes it does hurt to use the roller but the relief you experience afterwards is worth it. I'm a petite female, if I can handle it so can you...if you're indeed in the kind of excruciating pain I'm in daily this is the most effective roller I've used so far. I also used it as a foot roller.

Deep tissue diy massage 👍🏼
I’ve had this sucker for over six months and use it regularly. The knobs are pretty stiff, but it really helps out the nuts all over my body. I use it on my back like how their thighs and my calves absolutely would recommend this to anyone that wants to do it yourself deep tissue massage with a roller.lol 🤪👍🏼

I’m frugal
I saw this torture device on a VERY detailed reddit post about chronic muscle tension. The poor guy struggled with horrific tension in his muscles in about 70% of his body, had tried doctors galore, yoga, supplements, weed, rx, EVERYTHING he could throw his silicone valley tech salary at (so, a lot). The hardest Rumble Roller (black) was one of about 4 things he said DID help relieve this tension. At $65 for a friggin roller, i was SKEPTICAL and horrified, but ultimately gave it a go and wow. Sincerely, this thing is wildly affective. It’s like having a mass of painful elbow jabs climbing your back. For the first time in YEARS, I’ve heard my cement-hardened spine bend and crack against the knobs. I only roll and then lay on this beast for a few minutes and it helps. Like 3 min of torture helps me to not shuffle like Mick Mars from room to room. My 4 herniations, RA, and rock hard muscle tension are NOT cured but this without a doubt DOES help matters. My BIL is a personal trainer and owns both the black and blue (less traumatic, but not what my beastly muscles deserve) to use to break up lactic acid after weight sessions. Lastly, the reddit guy mentioned even investing in the travel size so he can roll when he’s on business trips— while i rolled my eyes initially, i totally get it now and there’s a possibility i’ll do the same. Pro-tip: too painful? Wear a hoodie and add a thick yoga mat or blanket under the roller to add some padding until you can work up to POW mental strength to endure this thing. The pain is GLORIOUS but one may need to work up to embracing it.

FINALLY a FIRM roller with NODULES
I've been looking EVERYWHERE for a firm enough roller with NODULES and they're either flat, too soft, or the nodules don't stick out enough to make any type of impact. I have some BAD muscle knots and I need DEEP penetration and this roller is perfect. It's got me gritting my teeth in happy pain whenever I use this thing. Great for those with chronic back pain due to poor posture and tight back muscles and can't afford a heavy handed masseuse every week. Great for rolling other parts of your body like legs on leg day too if you don't want too much lactic acid build up after a heavy work out.

Hurts in the best way—and really works
I’ve been dealing with persistent leg numbness, and this has made a noticeable difference. Because it’s the extra firm version, it’s definitely not gentle—it can be downright painful at first. But if you’ve got chronic tightness or pain that regular foam rollers just bounce off of, this one really gets in there. It gives incredibly deep pressure, almost like a massage therapist’s elbow digging right into the trouble spots. For anyone like me with ongoing pain or tension that never seems to fully release, this is absolutely worth using. It’s not comfortable, but the results speak for themselves.

This baby is rock hard!
Not for the faint of heart! If you can push through the significant discomfort of using it, this roller gets the job done but it's not painless.

Could turn Ronnie Coleman into 285lbs of hamburger meat
Wow. Its like rolling around on a dirt bike tire. It is so hard, and so uncomfortable - but no matter how big, sore, or tense your muscles are, this will loosen them up. After a week of using this (on and off), I added roughly 1 1/4 inches to my latissimus dorsi , just from relieving the tension I was carrying around. It got rid of the pain and tension in my cervical spine area, which I found out was a result of my lat tension. I am 5'11" 205 lbs w/ 12% body fat, I have tatoos under my arm pit and on my sternum, I break a finger every other year playing sports since I was 13 years old. I can handle pain (or so I like to think) I laid on my side with this thing, doing as the instructions advise with minimal movement, really focusing on working it in deep. I had tears streaming down my face. Not from sadness, not really even from pain - it was as if every nerve was screaming until it was out of breath...and then it finally relaxed. If you are thicc and trunky like me, everything else is a joke. This is the only roller that works.

100% worth the extra money.
It’s 100% worth the extra money for this particular brand. I have the firmer option - the firmness takes a little getting used to, but it really relieves post-workout muscle aches. The density of foam in the bumps and the solid core means the roller doesn’t deflect and will last a very long time. The size of the bumps and the spacing between the bumps spreads the pressure more evenly (cheaper versions have wider spacing/ fewer bumps) but also really “dig in”. The 22inch is a good size as it lets you roll a different angles without “falling off” the edge. Looking at the design and materials, you get the feeling that the people who made this, prioritised making a quality product over anything else.

Excellent tool
It's very firm. Very robust, it should last for years. Not smelly. I am reviewing the black extra firm version. As for its ability to give a deep massage, it is definitely at the extreme range of pressure produced. It can be painful using it, but no pain no gain. Or 'if it isn't hurting, it's not working'. It is very effective at loosening up knots and impingements in muscles and ligaments. I 100% recommend this. The only question is 'can you handle it?'
