LEGO Creator Green Grocer

I am the father of twin 11 year old boys and I have been purchasing Legos for them since they were about 3 or 4. My boys get along very well and share the building responsibilities. To this day I have never had to help them build a set and they have built every set they have ever received. I have always been impressed with how well diagramed the sets were and when my boys got started with Legos they could build them even though they didn't know how to read. I am not sure how much the twin thing helped since they each had someone to share the building excitement with and create adventures. There was also the added bonus of having 2 different perspectives to figure out some of the tougher builds.The Green Grocer was on their list for some time and was a big hit this Christmas along with the Cafe' Corner and Market streets. The details are incredible and well worth the purchase.Legos require patience and if started early enough, perhaps help develop patience, I'm not sure. I have been very pleased with the quality of the pieces and how well they stay together as well as the wonderful imagination that went into creating each model.Legos have come along way since I was a kid and this is the toy that my boys will keep into their adult lives and pass on to their kids.Additionally, Lego has produced a number of wonderful PC games that were both entertaining and also helped give them ideas for actual role playing with the real sets.Keep up the good work!

We bought this for Christmas for our 11 year old son. It took us most of Christmas Day to complete, but it was a project that the whole family, including grandparents, could work on together. Their are a large number of parts and I would advise anyone to open the little packages as needed, not all of them at once. Some parts are so similar, it could create difficulties to complete the house according to plan. 10+ is a good age for this product, I do not see anyone 16 and over being captivated by the product once it is built, yet the 10+ child will get lots of enjoyment out of pretending to 'work' in the shop. Unfortunately there are no longer any other houses available at a reasonably price; the corner cafe's price has now been increased to over $300 (who'd buy that as a toy?)This is my reason for dropping the overall rating - The Grocer Store is suggested as part of a city street, but the other houses are no longer available, at least in the US. The other down-side was that for the first time there were parts missing - not what I have previously experienced from Lego.

Great set and very fun to build. The "removable" floors are a key element to letting the kids really play with the set. One additional feature that I appreciate is the fact that many decorative elements are created by combining standard pieces in an unusual way---the railing on the roof deck, for example, is made out of "skeleton legs" and "hatchets." The kids really got a kick out of this one. A challenging build with a lot of parts though, take your time!One star off because although the front of the building is very detailed, the other sides are pretty lackluster. The rear shows a fire escape which is great, but otherwise it's a lot of green brick with few other items of interest. This was one of Lego's earlier entries in this theme, and they really improved with later models.

Green grocer is so beautiful, so perfect, so detailed it's not even funny. Awesome amount of pieces for the price. Well designed interior and exterior, and it's just a lovely thing to put together, and then stare at on the top of your dresser. I think this set will be worth some money after it's retired too (like cafe corner), so get it now before its gone!

After much deliberation I decided to purchase this set for myself as a gift. It's incredibly expensive, but most of the larger Lego sets are, and once it came in the mail, I knew why it was so much. Not only does it have a ridiculous amount of pieces, but it took me three days to build the set, building for a couple hours each day. It's got some amazing design elements, and once it's completed, it would be great for a show cabinet or similar display item. It's also great for building other items. There are enough pieces to go nuts with creative thinking, and plenty of figures and extra pieces for younger audiences to actually play with the sets they build. Overall, a great value for a set so large, and very fun for any age. Would highly recommend this product to those thinking about purchasing a Lego set.

This was purchased as a gift for our 3 children; ages 10, 8 and 6. Each child was given one layer to build. With a little help from Dad, they were able to build it. They absolutely love it and had a great time building it. The detail is incredible and worth the money.

I was expecting this item to be in good condition. Meaning even the lego box will be taken care of during delivery. However, when I received it, the box was not in good condition. For collectors who wants to keep the set in the box, beware..

Purchased this for our 14 year old son for Christmas after it was clear this was the top item on his wish list. He spent several hours over several days building the model and really had a good time. The beauty is in the details.
