UVC Light Test Card with UVC Light Wavelength Indicator and Photochromic UV Intensity Test

It’s smaller than I thought and reported it missing but found it later in the packaging. It is credit card size look out but looks good and works well

We are expecting a baby and have purchased a UV steriliser, then saw lots of warnings that some aren't actually emitting the correct wavelength. We purchased this card to check. As our steriliser doesn't have a window, we had to get a bit creative - using a phone recording it to check the right sections were glowing as expected (I'm glad to say they were).

It's a card that reacts to UV light. Handy for verifying sunglasses. However it is rather costly for what it is.

Quantadose UV Test Card ==================== There is very little regulation with uv protection on devices from sunglasses, to heat lamps down to sterilisation devices, it's a grey area that could just be bad QA down to outright fraud. It has annoyed me so much to the extent that I have got this to check some of these claims, in particular sunglasses and ski masks that claim UV400 which should cut out 100% of uva and uvb rays and photochromic lenses which should darken with uv light. I don't have any uvc lamp to test the uvc on the card, but I have tested uva/uvb, photochromic uv extensively on a large number of glasses and was shocked at the number of so-called UV400 glasses that fail the test. The things I like about the card - It’s simple to use, it’s reusable, the cons being it is quite expensive, but I regard this contextually - considering it can save you a lot more money in the long run by returning faulty / bad items or binning items that will lull you into a false sense of security since its not actually doing what it says it does. For this reason I think for myself it's definitely worth it. However, I didn't do my homework before purchasing - I incorrectly assumed from the price that this was the 2nd Edition of the card (which also works for UVC Far Light, sometimes referred to as far-UVC), the first Edition of the card works on UVC near light, and americans can buy the 2nd Edition card at Walmart (their supermarket superstore) for around 12 dollars at the time of writing. I got this 1st Edtion card on Amazon through 3rd party resellers for £21 at the time of writing. The far-UVC light devices are a relatively new form of uvc light which has started to dribble in new products in 2022, created in response to Covid, for sanitising large areas utilising far-UVC which can reach longer distances, but not strong enough to pierce human skin (ie won't burn) or penetrate the first layer of your eyeball (i.e. won't cause retinal damage), making it safe for humans. I’m guessing these far-uvc items may become more common in future as the technology improves. The card comes with no instruction, but it is easy to use if you do a little research beforehand. The card has two sections. One lights up “UVC” when uvc is detected and the other lights up “UltraViolet” when uva or uvb hits it. The bottom strip has an intensity grading, and can be used to test UV400 items like sunglasses etc or testing UV torches or lamps. If you want to check if your sterilisation item does actually work, it should light up *both* the top and bottom - if it only lights up the top, it is using UVC leds, but its intensity is not high enough to actually sterilise anything. Also note sterilisation is less effective the further away the item you are sterilising is placed from the uvc light source. I test sunglasses by first shining a UV torch directly at the card, and repeating the test behind the lens of the sunglasses or ski mask that I'm testing. This has already saved me money returning a few items where I send pictures of the results that the sellers can't really deny and confirming for my own peace of mind that other items are working as it's supposed to.

I bought this to test the UV claims of my ultrasonic cleaner and to see if the window above leaks UV. It worked very well and was worth the money for the piece of mind.

Seems to work as advertised. We wanted to test out the flight deck windows in an aircraft we were flying to see if they indeed blocked UV and it showed they did, vs walking outside the airplane where the indicator strip immediately darkened up. I also like that it's affordable, and the size of a credit card so easy to carry with you.
