I’m a 32DD what would be the best size?

I guess it depends on what size sports bra you normally wear. If you normally wear Mediums but occasionally find Medium bras too small then get Large. If you've never experienced a Medium that was too small then stick with Medium. I'm 32DDD and the medium is tight but not unwearably tight. It fits exactly how I wanted because I need high impact for sprinting and jumping. If you do not want to be compressed and flattened then get Large.

Will it make my breasts appear smaller?

Yes. It’s a compression bra. Buy one size up.

Can someone describe the fabric?

Polyester. Looks like a cotton blend-not shiny.
