8TIMBER Stern Link with FIDLOCK Quick Release Magnetic Sternum Strap - Compatible with Most Backpacks

So far, so good. Been using this strap on my Tomtoc backpack for a little over a week now. The magnetic buckle is really nice. Super secure. Fastens securely into the ring loops on shoulder straps. Fits nicely too. I’m able to expand it to accommodate my wider frame too. I haven’t used it on a long trip or a flight yet (just a short weekend trip and day to day use) so I’m not sure how everything will hold up in that scenario. But, I imagine it will be fine given the durability of the parts and overall construction. Definitely worth shelling out a little more money (though, I think the price should be a little lower) instead of risking going with something less expensive and flimsier.

The strap is nice and the quick release function is handy. I have it on my travel backpack to ease the load and I need to be able to take on and off quickly. Downside is it’s a bit on the pricey side.

When Amazon asked me to review this item I had completely forgotten that this was a third party addon to my backpack - it feels like it was part of my pack all along. It's comfortable, feels very durable, and the magnetic latch is both easy to secure and easy to undo. It holds strong the moment it clamps together, and I've never encountered a situation so far where the latch came undone on its own under stress. I'm bookmarking this purchase for the future, as I can see this being useful in other situations.

If it holds up, it will be well worth the money. I got this for my child's backpack. The chest strap on the current backpack was not easy for a young child to undo and closing it often resulted in pinching, so it wasn't used and the backpack often slipped off 1 or more shoulders, dragging on the ground..... This, at it shortest setting, fit my 4 year old perfectly. Now getting the backpack on and off is sonething my child can do independently. There are other ones that wrap around the shoulder strap that do not have 1in molle strap for this to attach to. This one was able to be attached to the existing shoulder straps so the other wasn't needed. It it a bit spendy compared to the cost of a child's backpack, but it is removable and extendable, so if it is durable, it will easily transfer to my child's future backpacks, if that happens, it will be well worth it. I did some stress testing and it did seem sturdy enough to endure elementary school life. But the joy my child had putting it together and seperating it independently was immeasurable. My child was happy to share it didn't pinch. Currently my only "complaint" is lack of color options and that is reason for 4 stars rather than 5 I would give it a 4.5. Black is a great go-to color but lacks individuality. But I get this isn't being marketed for kid use, so maybe bright orange or desert camo are not profitable.

I put this on a backpack that I use for work travel. This sternum strap is an impressive piece of equipment. Works as advertised. The magnet clamp is solid and the fast release is outstanding. Worth the extra money.

Excellent replacement sternum strap with easy to use and strong clasp. Especially like the magnetic clasp style. Will order another as I have several backpacks.

I bought this to add to my Aer Go Pack 2 since it doesn’t have a sternum strap. For the price, I had higher expectations. I knew Fidlock commanded a premium; however, the strap itself that would need adjusting is poor quality. It’s thick and chunky and makes it extremely difficult to adjust while wearing the pack if you have hopes of adjusting it to fit the specific load after you put it on. It requires two hands to feed the webbing through to adjust vs other normal sternum straps that allow a single handed pull of the strap to tighten or a slight lift of the plastic feeder buckle to loosen. The Fidlock mechanism is easy to engage and disengage. Similar options that are not by Fidlock (dupes) aren’t as good. The sternum strap is also missing the stretch webbing on the underside to adjust with your movement. Disappointing for the price. Do yourself a favor and get the Alpha One Niner version for the same price after shipping. It hits all the points that were a miss by this product. Skip this one if you’re a serious bagger. In photos, top strap is the 8Timber, bottom strap is Alpha One Niner. Note the strap quality and stretch panel difference.
