Beautiful but flawed
There’s a flaw in pg 445 in my copy of this book. The description of the susano-wo portrait is chopped off. Beautiful book with some flaws. I’ll keep an eye out for more. I made a small note to document the correction but I don’t have info on the source of This artwork. Edit: This book is missing maps for their South and Central Asia section as well as their East Asia section. This is unfortunate because it would be useful to know how these were geographically defined. It is not made clear whether SE Asia’s myths fall under one or the other. Also, these maps would have been useful to show where in which country are certain sites, cities and rivers located. Also, when referring to Tibet in this text, it would have been helpful to explain the connection between Tibet and Xizang in nomenclature. Finally, several characters that were presented in an earlier version of this work are missing such as zmey gorynych, and koschei the deathless and Marya Morevna. It would have been better if the Slavic Section had had its own section and that this section could have been more fully developed. The same goes for the Inuit/Siberian myths. Edit 2: The Caribbean section that the old version had is completely missing. It seems that the authors sacrificed the breadth of the old version of this book for depth in the newer version. Also, I really wish that they had kept the chapter formatting of the old version of this book. That way, they would not have needed to sacrifice breadth for depth and several distinct cultural mythologies could have been explored on their own.

とことん世界中の神話や宗教を集めまくっているような感じで、ここまで様々な種類の神話を紹介している本にまだ出会った事がないです! フルカラーで英語が読めなくても見応えがありました!とてもいい本でした!

This looks a wonderful production - beautifully presented and covering the world's myths. It is for my grandchild and I think she will love it.
