Declartive, but not art.
I bought this just for the sound of Cumber's voice to lull me to sleep. But at the beginning of every story are train whistles. Wha. He's a better actor in drama and poetry reading than story teller. He's a little too "good eighth grade reader-ish". Art is more than declaration.

Short in length--repetitive VERY short stories of this railway “detective.”
4 stories but entire length is only 60 minutes. Not worth the money. This railway “detective” wasn’t all that intuitive. Boring actually.Narrator Cumberbatch speaks too quickly--as an American had trouble understanding British accent.

Highly recommend this!
These stories are clever and entertaining. Benedict Cumberbatch does an excellent job narrating them. He's incredibly good at giving each character a distinct voice and reads with lovely expression.

Something wrong here.
The stories repeat over and over on various tracts, which is more than disturbing.

Fun and entertaining
I would gladly listen to this man reading the telephone book! In his speech, he gives individuality to each character.

Entertaining
Benedict delights with a number of voices and different dialects. The stories are short mysteries that take place on trains.

A wonderful indulgence in British adventure story telling
These Edwardian era stories are quite delightful in their quirky but fascinating way. I first came across one of the tales ('Sir Gilbert Murrell's Picture') in an old out-of-print compendium of similar adventure stories and never thought I'd see it again, so scanned it for personal use. It is good to be able to get hold of such amusing but familiar 'cultural icons' in our modern bland pc age, when so much older, more obscure, literature has almost been lost to time or the fashions of acceptability or taste (happy memories of BBC R4 Children's Hour, Story Time, etc). Also refreshing to have it on a physical audio disc/ CD (rather than just a MP3 file) transcribed straight from a modern series on the radio. The choice of cover illustration and reader is also most appropriate. Good on Amazon to offer this choice. May we have more like this in future!

Cumbmerbatche's Versatile Voices!
Delightfully narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch....in one perhaps 10 minute (or less) tale, he gives us 14 different voices/accents (counting his own), and I got such a kick out of each new one that I heard.....Ben could narrate the phone book and make me smile!

Thrilling stories of the railway.
Thrilling stories of railway, short but nice. A few stories to listen to stir the imagination a bit. I could imagine a railway with these trains running through and modern day trains but I think the stories are from old days of train running/travel/time.

Great entertainment
There are several short stories, all are great - up with Agatha Christie's, and with Benedict Cumberbatch's lovely voice, I couldn't ask for more. I really hope he does many more.
