Quality dash cam
Has worked perfectly for the last few months now. Great picture quality, can read plates a few cars ahead.Only gripe I have is that the camera won't tell you if the SD card has failed. So you have to check it every now and then to make sure its recording.Would recommend to anyone looking for a quality dashcam.

You get what you pay for
You get what you pay for.I've tried an assortment of the cheaper dash cams and they eventually failed basically because of battery issues as opposed to a component failure. This camera does not have a battery. It is energized using a capacitor. This is my second SpyTec dash cam. I bought it because of some additional features my first one didn't have. I gave the original to a friend and it's still operational even after the 2 years I used it on a daily basis. My newer G1W-S came with a new and improved manual printed in English. Because the default settings on the camera were in English as well, the setup directions were uncomplicated and easy to follow. (The print in the manual could be a little larger though)The camera came with a lot of mounting hardware to mount in accordance with your personal preference; on the dash board, windscreen or attach it to your mirror. In my state, there are no restrictions for mounting devices on your vehicle's windscreen. Personally, I feel that windscreen mounts using a suction cup is a distraction and I prefer mounting the camera on the mirror.Unfortunately after the parcel was delivered, I discovered that the mirror mount was broken. Don't know how that happened because it was pretty thick plastic. I rang SpyTec's customer service and they promptly sent me a replacement mirror mount. To recap: It's a good quality solidly built product. Even though the claims are that it will withstand the heat of an enclosed car sitting in the hot sun, I still remove it using the quick release and put it in the consul as a precaution. Additional to that precaution, I don't want potential thieves to see the camera in my car while it's parked.UPDATE: Premature is stating they promptly sent me a replacement mirror mount. Waited 2 weeks and no replacement. Rang them back and again customer no service told me they would send one right away. Still haven't received it. I initiated a concern through Amazon period com.UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: Received the broken mirror mount replacement and can now mount this exceptional dash cam where I want it. Took about a month to get the replacement sent to me. Amazon's iconic customer service helped a lot.

Decent hardware with a fatal flaw.
This is a decent-quality camera but there are two annoying flaws that can come back to bite you in the ass.1. The time and date reset after a day or two of inactivity.2. The above can be mitigated by having the GPS (which accurately grabs time and date). Unfortunately, there is NO OPTION TO TURN OFF THE SPEED DISPLAY. If you have the GPS plugged in, your speed will ALWAYS be displayed in the video. This may negatively impact you in case of an accident, even if you weren't at fault. Turning off speed display would be an easy firmware option, but VIOFO has completely abandoned support for this camera, even though it was only released in 2017.

Horribly unreliable
Sometimes it records. Then for weeks it doesn’t. Complete garbage, both of them. One randomly powers off. The other allegedly was recording during an accident and there hadn’t been footage for two weeks. Avoid this brand entirely or anything that looks like it.

Some good, some not so good.
I bought a pair of these for my two vehicles, paired with a spytech wiring kit to wire them directly to the fuses. My original plan was to wire them as always-on and use them in parking mode, but that wasn't to be.First, the good. These cameras work very well as the sort of dash cam that powers on when the car does and records your drive. There are multiple methods of mounting, which is good. My clamp mounting was cracked and broken in the box, which was disappointing, so I wasn't able to try that. The bad: The firmware needs work. The motion detection feature is essentially useless as it records only a very brief (a few seconds) snippet of video when it's triggered. I didn't realize this is only triggered by motion on camera as well, not by movement detected by the GPS and/or the g-force sensors. Which means as a parking mode camera, it's useless. At the very least I'd like to see the length of motion detected recording fixed, but what I'd really like is a full fledged parking/driving mode that activates whenever any motion is detected and continues to loop record for a configurable amount of time. That way, I could set it in motion detect mode and forget it, knowing that it was recording both when my car was driving and when it detected an event while parked. The firmware has other issues as well. The speed from the GPS unit only shows up as KPH, without an option to configure it. Again, not a big deal, but it would be nice to have a setting for this. The LED on the front is basically useless and should be disabled entirely.I'm hoping Viofo works to update the firmware and make this the excellent device it has the potential to be. I'll update my review should that happen.
