A Good Book About An Important Event in Human History!!
This book provides the reader with a well written, consise, and fact filled acount of World War 1 (WW 1) It is filled woth the key events, nations involved, why they fought, the major battles, the weapons used, the conditions men fought and died in, and so forth. I bet some folks are asking why should I read a book about World War I? Consider that WW 1 resulted in more than 9 Million soldiers fatalities, more than 20 Million wounded, and at least 5 Million civillian deaths. Many of them and their loved ones believed they were sacrificing themselve in what was called the "War to End All Wars". However, after 4 years of the deadliest warfare in history, when in 1919, the winners wrote the peace treaty (The Treaty of Versailles) they included many punitive provisions that led to the onset of World War II within 20 years of ratifying the treaty. Clearly mankind did not take away the right lessons learned about the First World War! I have read and studied numerous books regarding WW I, and believe this book will appeal to a wide spectrum of readers. It is well written, easy to understand, clearly and succinctly presented. I strongly recommend that the widest possible audience read this book!

Very solid work
Very solid: condensed and concise history of WWI. Quick read. Well done. Provides a very high-level overview of a war where more than 38 million lives were lost.

A little military history
The beginning of this book is poorly done. WHY and HOW the war started, which countries WANTED it, and which countries tried to prevent it; these issues are not addressed as they should be. The most crucial, or the ONLY CRUCIAL element in how the war started is THE MOBILIZATIONS! Does this book mention which country mobilized FIRST? Or SECOND? Or THIRD? The SEQUENCE of mobilizations tells more about the start of this war than anything else. You will find that sequence in Sydney Fay's excellent book: the ORIGINS OF THE WORLD WAR. This little book does an adequate job of describing the military history of the war, including technology. I liked that the book did not restrict itself to Europe. Several times it was stated that Bulgaria is in the Baltic peninsula! (That should be Balkan.) The first time I thought it was a typo until I saw it reappear twice more and I realized the author is a little weak on geography. I was disappointed that there was no account of the war's end in Germany, specifically the revolution led by the German navy which overthrew the government. The Kaiser fled to Holland before the armistice. The book made no mention of this revolution or the fact that a democratic government was created in Germany. I'm not completely negative on this book. Its a good little MILITARY history, otherwise quite limited.

The best short intro for WWI
WWI or "the Great War'" was regarded as the war to end all wars but in truth, it was a messy conflict which left the world stunned, disillusioned and paved the way for a new industry and a terrifying conflict which is still engraved in memory. I debated whether I should give it four or five stars since it quickly glossed over the Russian Revolution by not emphasizing on the horrors of the Bolsheviks in contrast to the remarked abuses of the Central Powers and the Entente. But I decided to go with five stars because it was a straightforward and fairly objective breakdown of this global conflict. Furthermore, it emphasizes that to this day, the nature of this conflict and the disenfranchised veterans and survivors of this war were left with a bleak view of reality. This was a war to which its contemporaries didn't find a moral at the end of the story. Moreover, the end created a void that was filled with resentment because of the restrictions placed on the losing side and the number of casualties from all the countries involved.

Better
When Henry Freeman writes for 1 hour history, he does a fantastic job. The author presents concise, interesting facts in an orderly fashion. This book was great. Which is why I can't understand how his writing style is so terrible in other quick histories. My suggestion is to enjoy his books with the 1 hour history stamp and stay far away from his apparently self-published titles. I'd be really interested to learn why he has two drastically different styles of writing, 'professional author' and 'not-too-bright eighth grader.'

A Gripping Journey Through World War I
World War 1: A History From Beginning to End’ is an engaging and concise overview of one of the most pivotal events in modern history. From the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand to the Treaty of Versailles, the author navigates through the complex web of alliances, battles, and political intrigue that defined the Great War. While the book provides a solid foundation for understanding the key events and players of World War I, some readers may find it lacking in depth, particularly regarding lesser-known aspects of the conflict. Nonetheless, it serves as an excellent starting point for those seeking to grasp the overarching narrative of this transformative period. Recommended for history enthusiasts looking for a quick yet informative read on World War I.

Superb overview
A very good overview of the main political events. The origins are provided and a variety of different theatres of war covered. This is very refreshing as most books on WW1 overly focus on the Western front. Only complaint is that the term 'Baltic States' is incorrectly used to refer to the Balkans. Other than that, excellent.

A nice introduction to the war.
The books summarises the major events of the conflict leaving certain details that whilst interesting are not necessary to understand the period.
