The amount of space between the blade part and the counter top is about 9 inches, assuming the can could fit in that space, I do think it would work. The magnet that holds the can in place seems fairly strong, I would say worst case scenario, if it fits, you may just have to hold the bottom while it turns to open it

My current can opener gets bogged down or stops half way through. I think it is a weak motor. Does this one stop half way through?
