they are cotton (mostly) and feel like cotton. nice socks !!

do these have extra padding on top of the toes?

The whole sock is really padded. More than any sock I have purchased. No extra at the toes though.

Can you wear these with 6 inch steel toe boots??

These Socks come up over the ankle. I wear them with cowboy boots. This is a pretty thick sock so if your shoes are already tight it could cause a comfort problem. Otherwise it is a great sock.

will these be great for steel toe boots?

They work great for steel toe shoes. Will be to Short for boots. I wear timberland pro shoes.
