The brand makes a difference
I got an off brand light bulb for my lava lamp last time around. Idk why exactly. I was not pleased with it. I thought my lamp may be messed up but after buying this bulb I’m happy with my lamp again. It’s the 27 inch original one btw

Proper Fitment and Wattage for Grande Lamp
As you can see in the images, the old bulb (frosted) and the new are dimensionally almost identical. The Amazon bulb, the one on the right side, comes in a plin white box. Some people may be put off by this, however, in these times of LED-only, I’m not picky. Also, it is clear and not frosted. For a lava lamp application, this should not matter. What matters is that it is: 100 Watts, incandescent, reflector, and is reasonably close in size. I measured the amount of space the lamp has for the bulb. Even if the bulb were a half inch longer, it would still work fine and not be crushed by the globe. I wouldn’t want the bulb to get much closer than that.I plan to convert all of my lava lamps to LED RGB ring lights using ceramic heaters. I acquired a reptile heater that screws into the socket for this bulb. I realized that I do not know how much heat I need from it, so I am going to perform a scientific experiment to acquire the daya I need for actual heat output from the light bulb I just acquired. Then I’ll compare outputs to different Wattage heaters. I’ll then use an inline dimmer to further tweak the heat to just the right amount. I believe it will be useful to use the dimmer to lower the amount of heat once the wax gets flowing. My next step will be to add an LED RGB ring light with some kind of heat shield for them. After that I may use an Arduino or equivalent to control both the heater and the lights. In the mean time, I’ll have my grande lava lamp entertaining me nightly.2024-03-20 Update: I found the exact same replacement bulb at a respectable retailer who acquired several directly from Lava Lamp, same price. The box is the third photo with the same bar code and plain white box. Apparently Lava Lamp changed the packaging. Also, I discovered that they now offer a small candle powered lava lamp!

Great replacement bulb for an XL Lava Lamp
The media could not be loaded. Works great! We have the XL lava lamp and the original bulb burned out in less than a year. No local stores carry a replacement bulb because most stores carry LED that doesn’t produce heat which makes the lamp work. We bought this based on a wonderful review on this bulb from another person who bought it and it works great.
