Saris Bike Racks, Modular Hitch System MHS 3+1 Universal, Fits 2" Hitch, Holds 3 Bikes Base+ 1 Additional Add On

Update below. I have an MHS 3+1, Duo Rack, and Cargo Rack. Due to having all of this equipment it slightly obscures my tail lights so I thought I would mitigate this issue by adding the MHS Light Kit. I attempted to install the light kit but the hex key provided with the light kit rounded itself while trying to turn the bolt. So i tried my own hex key with a bit of a longer handle for leverage. This then rounded the hex bolt in the rack. I emailed SARIS support and didn't hear from them for 3 days so I called the support number. They found my email and my attached images and said, "well it sounds like the bolts are working as expected to keep the rack together. Therefore since the rack works it is not a warranty issue and we can't offer any support.". So I have a light kit that they designed to be able to go on the rack that can't go on the rack because they designed the rack to not have the bolts come out even though the instructions state to remove the bolts. How does that make sense? Products are nice and seemingly durable so far. Customer service and the way the spoke to me was putrid. I had a friend come over who has numerous tools. Using a hex key made of a stronger metal, a stubby side to fit into the bolt and a 10" handle we were able to remove the non rounded bolts. Using other means we were able to remove the rounded bolt as well. After that we did complete the install as stated on the packaging with little trouble. The fishing of the wire is definitely easier as a two person job though. Conclusion. SARIS gets -1 star for poor customer service and -1 star for providing tools incapable of completing the job for the piece of equipment they designed. Recommendation, review your service process and provide a longer more durable hex key.

After a ton of research I concluded this was the best rack for my needs and concerns. Unfortunately I cannot recommend the Saris MHS line due to their oversight and unwillingness to provide a lighted bracket for a license plate. It is illegal in many states to obstruct the license plate which is what this item will do my truck when installed. Other than that it's a great rack but I'm not excited about traffic tickets and probable cause stops.
