A great pixel art game with an excellent soundtrack.
This game originally came out in 2010 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It received two pieces of DLC before being delisted in 2014 due to licensing issues. With this re-release, you get the DLC included with the base game as well as being able to play the game on modern platforms. The game is a simple beat ‘em up with charming pixel art and fluid animations for each of the main characters and the boss fights. For those familiar with the universe, you have your choice of 6 playable characters; protagonist Scott Pilgrim, love unstetestes Ramona Flowers, and supporting characters Kim Pine and Stephen Still. Scott’s roommate Wallace Wells and ex-girlfriend Knives Chau are added to the game as they were previously DLC. All of them have fairly diverse combos and special moves that either have them perform strong attacks or give them buffs. You navigate a Super Mario Bros. 3 style map of Toronto and navigate fairly long levels where you fight generic enemies with the occasional mini boss. At the end of most levels, you find yourself fighting one of the Seven Evil Exes. These range from fairly easy to kind of difficult, but it’s mainly due to how the game plays. The game itself plays like most beat ‘em ups that you’ve played before. One issue I tend to have with this game specifically is that it’s hard to judge where enemies in terms of depth, causing me to whiff air attacks and some specials. I don’t really have this issue with other beat ‘em ups and I like to think I have fairly decent vision. It’s just something to look out for if you have issues with depth perception. Overall, this game is pretty fun with some friends or family playing alongside you. Fans of the comic will find a lot more to appreciate compared to folks coming from the movie, seeing that the game uses a lot from the comic in terms of design and concepts that weren’t present in the movie. Another thing to note; some people complained about getting the US Best Buy version instead of the Limited Run Games version proper. I would have liked the Best Buy version seeing that I have the LRG version for PS4. Not a critique as much as something that would have been nice to have.

FALSE ADVERTISING
Seller straight up lies in description. When I bought my copy he was showing the sonic variant cover (actually from limited run games) and description reads includes 1 of 3 reversible covers, demonhead concert ticket and the limited run trading card. Yet the seller is selling the best buy variant(you get nothing but cartridge case and manual). It's clear as day it was done on purpose as now he has changed the picture to the best buy variant yet still has the description reading reversible cover and concert ticket. Shady business practice. Don't buy from IGGY'S!
