Why does this come with 3 sprinklers when you can only use 2?

Can I tap on the head with a hammer to get the spike into the ground?

Hello. We do not recommend using a hammer on the sprinkler head to get the spike into the ground. This could damage the sprinkler head and cause the range dial adjustments to not work.
