Why is there tapioca in this product? This a starch that turns to sugar. Why are you using it as a thickening agent?

I don't know, but I have used tapioca starch instead of corn starch in gravy and in stir fry as a thickening agent--it may be that the Instinct is supporting its grain free claim since, according to Wikipedia,tapioca is "...extracted from cassava root (Manihot esculenta). This species is native to the northeast region of Brazil..."

How many calories per cup are in this kitten food?

Hi Alvin! My name is Cait and I work with Nature's Variety. There are 552 kcals per cup in Instinct Original kibble for kittens.

Can I add water to make it more like the wet formula? I was gifted the dry kibble, but my kitten has been eating the wet food since I got her

You can soak it in warm water. It takes a while to soften up. Then you can mix it in with the wet food. Eventually the kitten will learn to eat it separate from the the wet food. I foster kittens and sometimes it takes a while for them to learn to eat the dry food.

What is the difference between this and the adult cat version?

I don’t see any difference in the ingredients from kitten or adult. I would think the kitten food ( which I did use) would be easier on their digestive track. When they were one, I switched to adult. They both like the turkey. I give wet in am and dry in evening. They are very healthy and indoor only.
