Easy to install and use - the app provides the cost per charge
When I first purchased my EV I didn't plan to install a charger and figured the included 110V 15Amp charging would work for me. I don't drive that often and when I do it is not more than 100 miles and most often under 30. I plugged my charger into my garage refrigerator outlet which was a dedicated 20Amp circuit which only had the refrigerator on it. I was happy to see it worked fine without blowing the fuse. The down side of the 110 charger its slow. Good for about 3 - 4 mile of charge per hour. It was taking nearly 3 days to charge the car to 80%. After a few weeks I decided I needed something a bit faster and went with the Emporia. I did quite a bit of research before choosing the Emporia Smart Home Charger. Features, warranty and price were all considered. I installed a 50Amp breaker and NEMA 14-50 receptacle which supports 40 Amp charging. This way I can take the charger with me should I move. You really don't need to go with the hard wired 60Amp / 48 Amp charging circuit, because the 40 Amp can charge just about any vehicle from 10% to 80% in about 6 to 8 hours depending on battery size. If you don't have enough service, I have 200 Amp, then go with a 30 Amp breaker, which will still charge the vehicle overnight at about 5.8kW per hour. The Emporia App is easy to set up. I was able to connect to my Wi-Fi which is about 40 feet from my router in my laundry room. After connecting, it installed an update to the unit and I was ready to go. The App has many features, but I use the schedule charge and power calculation the most. I set it up to charge at 8PM, which is off peak. I can plug in the car anytime and it will wait till 8PM. The other feature is the charge history. This tells me how long it took to charge and how much power was consumed. There is a place to add your utility info, both manually at cost per kWh or in my case I selected my power company from a list and it automatically filled in the data, which I verified looking at my last statement. It cost me about $8 to charge from 10% to 80%. BTW, you should not charge to 100% on a regular basis as this can damage the life of the batteries. Charging to 100% is only recommended when planning a long trip. Likewise you should not drop bellow 10% before charging. This will vary by make and model. I am driving a BMW I5-M60, which has a 84kWh battery pack. It is advertised at 260 miles, which is not exactly accurate when you consider the usable range is 70%. My only minor issue with the App is my car is not listed in the device menu. I'm guessing they will add it at some point. This has no bearing on the use and operation of the unit. The unit took me less than 1 hour to install and set up once I completed adding the 50Amp breaker and outlet, which took 4 hours. I have a background in electrical engineering and plenty of experience working on electrical circuits. In my opinion, if you do not have the electrical experience, hire an electrician to add the circuit and outlet. You can then install the Emporia yourself and save a few bucks. It is literally "plug & play". Lastly, I found the unit to be of great quality, fit and finish. The 24 foot charging cable is heavy duty, yet easy to maneuver and hang up. Best home charging option
Really impressed with the ease of use. We elected to have this hardwired, and the directions walked us through the process. (Install partner was an electrician so please don't attempt to hardwire without professional help) But the app support is great, gives me all the info I need and I don't have to stress about where and when to charge. Display is great and easy to read, the charging speed is fast and reliable and overall a great value. Highly recommend

Still Going Strong! Running Full Blast!!
We got this in July, 2022!! We had sold our LEAF and purchased a 2023 Chevy Bolt. That's whole a different story! With a 65 kwh battery, it wasn't a matter of a couple hours; now it was a 6 or more hour ordeal! We already had (and still have) a Grizz*E charger. One of Chevy's perks was to send out an electrician to install a charger. I bought this and the electricians came out and hard wired it into a circuit for a HUGE air conditioner outdoor unit. That has since been replaced with an 18 SEER, 4 Ton heat pump that takes... I don't know... a fifth of the power?!? So, they replace the breaker box with a much newer, better one and installed two breakers - one for the heat pump and one for this charger. HUGE advantage because the main breaker panel is a good 50 feet away from this, in a 75 foot long building. Saved me A WHOLE EXPENSIVE BUNCH of THICK copper wire! So, this thing has been charging the Bolt for all those years, is still perfect, getting it an automatic 5 stars! We upgraded the WiFi, just now and I walked past it and noticed the WiFi light flashing. I went, "Oh... Yea, Right! I'll have to let it know about the new WiFi." Which brought me to the realization that I'd never left a review! This thing, full blast, charges the Bolt in roughly the same amount of time that the Grizz*E used to charge the LEAF; maybe a little longer. To be kind to the battery, we charge it to 80%, instead of all the way full. I have to point out that the Bolt HAS NEVER been charged anywhere else since we bought it. I'd say it's earned 10 stars, but Amazon only lets me give it 5. The instructions are great. In those days it was compatible with everything. The Bolt has that 1772 plug. I just looked and you can get it with (I think) that plug or a Tesla plug. And it actually doesn't have to be hard wired. You can get Cell Phone apps to do all kinds of stuff, which I don't use. What's not to like?! BTW: The Grizz*E has already broken. I bought a white (Avalanche) to replace the black one, which got like an oven when the sun was shining right on it on a 98 degree day. I don't think you can beat this for charging power or features or longevity!! (And Amazon wants me to let you know it's functional!) (Functionality was the only one left.) And I just went to the website in case I can't remember exactly how to program it. The website has every kind of contact info imaginable! HELP CENTER, CHAT, CALL US, E-MAIL US! Just go to the Contact page. By the way: 48 amps at 240 volts is 11,520 watts. We have 10 KW of on-grid solar, so even our solar, on a bright, sunny day, can't quite keep up with it.

Best Value for up to 11.5kW Charging Capacity and Smart Functionality with some Quirks
This Smart EV Charger (EVSE - Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) is one of the best values for the money. It can be hardwired for a continuous 48amps (60amp breaker) or just stay with the plug and play option using the supplied 14-50 plug for 40amps continuous (50amp breaker). The wiring comes with 6ga AWG wires and the cords are thick and somewhat pliable in CA. However, the solid conductors that goes through the CT’s on the PCB only looks like a solid 10ga in diameter. The AC (14-50 Plug) and J1772 wire connectors have crimped ferrules to enhance connectivity. J1772 plug (long button on top) is a little loose when plugging in compared to my Chargepoint, but quality overall looks good! This EVSE (charger is in the EV) integrates with their Emporia Vue Gen1/2 Energy Monitor and Vue Utility Connect devices. Highly recommended! If you have a compatible utility smart meter, the Emporia Utility Connect is a must have. It’s plug and play after configuration/registration, and it will give you utility grade meter measurements when coupled with excellent network 2.4ghz WiFi/Zigbee connectivity. The Emporia EVSE will work as a stand-alone in the app. I opted for the hardwire installation using 6/3 NMB, so I will derate it to 44amps or 10.6kW just in case there are concerns for the 55amp rating. The Emporia Level 2 EV charger has comprehensive smart features such as TOU Scheduling, Demand Management and Excess Solar Generation. Although they are trying to allow all 3 functionalities running simultaneously, it causes issues and quirks with unexpected results sometimes. This is especially critical if you are avoiding On Peak periods (highest costs) due to the complexity of multiple events working simultaneously giving unexpected results. I won’t go to details on this, but just have to trust me that it’s not full proof at this point if you have multiple functions running at the same time especially the Scheduling/Excess Solar or Scheduling/Demand/Excess Solar. Scheduling/Demand might be ok. Time-of-Use (TOU) Scheduling: Allow scheduled times for this EVSE to turn on and turn off. They also integrated it with the NREL’s OpenEi to download various utility rates and TOU to setup your schedules automatically. BTW, the NREL rates are not necessarily updated or correct neither. However, it may be easier doing a manual turn on/off schedule especially if you have multiple times you want to avoid/charge or if your utility rate is not found. This is similar to setting up those mechanical or digital timers for your Christmas lights or other plugged in devices. Demand Management: You are allowed to set a demand threshold where it will throttle your EVSE up and down as it gets close to that limit. It may exceed the limit for some times, but it will check often to adjust your EVSE charge rate (within 240watts or 1amp) to keep it close to the threshold. If it cannot keep it under the demand threshold overall, it will shut down the EV charging completely. Keep in mind there is a minimum that the EVSE can manage ~1500watts. For example, Demand threshold is 5kW, current load without EVSE is 4kW, the EVSE will not turn on. If current load is 3kW, then the EVSE will throttle the EVSE to 1920watts or 8amps to keep it just under the 5kW threshold (3kw+1.92kW = 4.92kW). Demand management is usually good for managing utility demand charges to reduce costs. But for most homes or residential use, this does not apply since almost all residential rates don’t have demand charges. It applies more for commercial utility rates that has demand charges. Excess Solar Function: Will allow your EVSE to follow your solar generation and consume it within 240watts. Caveat is you need at least 1500watts of excess solar generation since the minimum EVSE charge rate is 6amps or 1440watts. If you have less than 1500watts of excess solar, the EVSE will turn off to avoid taking from the grid. Issues to watch out and how to mitigate: On initial setup (onboarding), the smart applications did not work right away. The EVSE is defaulted to ON all the time if you do not access the app initially or for those who do not use the app. When I tested it the 1st day (multiple sessions), the EV charger kept on going past the On-peak period. In my case, it went past the turn off schedule at 4pm even though the app says it was going to turn off. After a few days, the system settled down and schedules eventually worked to turn on/off the charger at the proper times. When you have multiple smart features turned on, Schedules/Excess Solar/Demand, you will encounter issues with the charger turning on during the On-peak hours. For best results to minimize issues, only use 1 of the smart functionality at a time. Then it will be reliable. The most useful function for most homes and small commercial owners is the TOU Scheduling under their “Schedules” application. I do have concerns on wear and tear of the EV and EVSE with having to turn on/off charging the vehicle when using the smart functions too often. The throttling of the EV charging by adjusting the control pilot signals (duty cycles) may be ok as long as there are no physical turn on/off. So if you really don’t need it or it’s for minimal savings, just stick with the simple Schedule to avoid the highest rates. Peace of mind on your car and EVSE reliability will be worth more that the headache if it breaks from too many turn on/off. The other functions are fancy and great, but it comes with great responsibility! Best of all, the Emporia support team has been great to work with. I have given the Emporia team recommendations and feedback on how to improve the Scheduling issues by using time blocks and putting it as priority to other functions to prevent accidental On-peak charging or times you don’t want the EVSE to come on. Additionally, I asked if they can use the same blinking blue LED status when the EVSE time blocks are scheduled not to charge to alert us visually/externally instead of looking at the app. I also requested to have a new hardwire installation capacity category of a 55A (or 60A breaker), 44A continuous for a 10.6kW max charge rate to accommodate the hardwire NMB/Romex 6/2 or 6/3 for those who are concerned. Once this is implemented, this should make their product and applications more robust and definitely one of the smarter EVSE in industry. Of course, it needs to be easy to use and reliable.

The best value
I researched many different types of Level 2 chargers and decided that this was the best bang for your buck. I was 100% right. I opted for the Nema 15-40 charger for it's flexibility. 40amps is plenty fast enough for my family and probably for most people, but if youre constantly on the go then maybe hardwiring is better to get closer to 48. We installed it on a 50A outlet as recommended by manufacturer. According to the app I'm actually getting between 38 and 39 amps (9.2kWh) which brought me from 50-80% in about 2 hours. For comparison with my Level 1, that I was using for a couple weeks prior, I was getting 1kWh on the 12A setting (120v). Very slow. 4-5 milers per hour. This is a welcome change. The app is extremely useful. Paired with the Hyundai Bluelink app, i can control and view everything about my charging experience (timelines, rates, cost etc). I particularly liked that it gives you your cost per kWh based on your location. My actual cost is 11 cents per kWh for off peak and 14 cents during peak. The app rated me at 13.5 cents which will give me a very accurate estimate of what to expect (probably a little high, which i actually prefer). The graphs are very cool to view (nerd) and seeing the consistency in charge delivery gives peace of mind. The charging cord is plenty long enough- if i wanted to pull it out of the garage and charge in my driveway I could. I ended up not installing the hangar for the charger because it sticks out so far into the garage but for those with larger garages or just 1 car it's a very useful addition. The EVSE itself is high quality and very durable. Installation was straightforward and it was paired with the app in 30 seconds (wifi required). Overall, it was the best value charger out there with fast homr delivery and a high charging rate. Some chargers that do the same as this one (or less) cost $100+ more and for what? Just happy to throw the Level 1 in the trunk and forget about it. Edit (a few weeks after purchase)** I forgot my car settings are set to only accept 90% of the AC current so it could actually charge a bit faster. I have no real reason to set it to 90% but I'm new to EVs and want my car/charger to last as long as possible. I've charged it from 30% to 100% and the charger/cable isn't even warm. Incredible product- even better than when I wrote the original review.

Back in 2016, I got a Tesla Model S P90DL. Unfortunately, the location of my garage, relative to my electrical panel, made installing a charger impractical. Instead, I put a NEMA 14-50 outside, and ran a 50' RV power extension cord to my porte-cocher. Oh, and I've been using my mobile charger as my only charger since day 1. When I moved to a new house, I put a NEMA 14-50 in the garage, and kept the same basic arrangement. About the time a Model Y was added to the household, it seemed like a good idea to go for a more permanent solution. With a Rivian on order, I definitely didn't want a Tesla-specific charger. Really, just about all of the chargers are SAE J1772 anyway, so I did some research on the one that would be best for me. There appear to be two tiers of chargers, where the first is relatively "dumb", and the other is "smart"er. Dumb chargers, in this context, set the charging current limit to the car, and negotiate the closing of contactors within the charger. These will work fine with any EV. Smarter chargers generally communicate via wifi, measure energy that's passed through the charger, and usually have some ability to set schedules or rules for charging. I settled on the Emporia Energy Smart Level 2 EV Charger. My list of requirements was pretty short. First, the charger needed to be outdoor-capable. Second, I wanted the charger to be hardwired. Third, I wanted app monitoring/control, since I'd be using one charger for 2 or 3 vehicles. Fourth, I wanted some scheduling features - I'm not going to use them now, but definitely will once I have my solar/battery setup. OUTDOOR INSTALLATION The Emporia fulfills my requirements. It's listed as outdoor-capable, but the capability is as a result of a gasket that separates the case shell from the lid, and weather-proof caps on the cables that exit the case shell. More on that in a minute. If you don't put a hole in the housing, the case will remain sealed, as the unit mounts to the wall with a bracket that the case mounts to. HARDWIRING The unit does allow hardwiring. Once you're in the shell, you can remove the AC supply cable. Interestingly, you just unhook 3 wires - this is interesting because a 14-50 is typically a 4-conductor hookup. If you know this going in, you can save some money buying 3-conductor 6ga wire, which is significantly cheaper than 4-conductor 6ga. While you don't ABSOLUTELY NEED to do this, it's a good idea to use ferrules and a ferrule crimper to prep your terminal block connections. I drilled through the back of the housing to pull the 6ga. From a weatherproofing perspective, you need to take care of the hole in the back and seal the left-side cap. SMART FEATURES So, my guess is that most of you have some wifi coverage wherever it is that you park your car. I mean, you get your car's OTA updates, right? Well, if you DON'T have wifi coverage, the Emporia will act as a regular EV charger. If you do, you will perform some soft setup, consisting of getting the Android or iOS Emporia app. Your device will find the charger's bluetooth radio. It'll ask you to verify that the pairing code has a fragment of the charger's MAC address. You'll have to create an Emporia account to access the charger via the app, which shows you the current status and the historical charging information. The app also lets you link your EVs. I forget what 3rd-party IaaS it uses, but I was able to link my Teslas to my Emporia account (it just required OAuth during the setup). I was able to set the charge limit to 48A, which the Model Y can use. My Model S has no problem negotiating a 40A limit. One thing that I thought was interesting was that the Model Y tapers the current as you approach the charge limit - I've not seen my Model S ever do that, but I guess it's better for the battery. At $450, my Emporia charger was certainly way less expensive than some of the other models I was considering. Considering how basic these devices are from a BOM and design standpoint, $450 feels like a lot, but the price is the price. Compared to the other "smart" chargers, I do feel like the Emporia is a relative bargain. If you're charging Teslas, you'll need a SAE J1772 adapter (but you probably got one with your mobile charger). With the adapter, you'll probably want to get a weatherproofing option of some sort. I adapted a silicone cap for the task, and it works great. Recommended

Wonderful charger
I bought this to charge my Ioniq 6 because I couldn't stand to wait a week for it to charge on the slow charger provided by the dealership. It was very easy to setup and I like the feature on the app where it tells you the approximate cost of the energy you're using. It charged my car to 80% in about 6 hours with no problem. Definitely worth the cost for the convenience of having almost a full battery in the event I need it immediately.

Good little charger with a great app
This Emporia Classic EV charger is well made, easy to install, and the app (iOS and Android) makes initial setup and usage easy. The app is what sets this charger apart from its predecessor and from other units I’ve seen. The charger app is aware of my local utilities’ pricing schedule and automatically will charge during the times of cheapest electricity. I set my car to be ready to charge immediately and let the Emporia turn the charging ON at the beginning of lowest rate. The charging cable measures at 23’ long which works fine for me. If I had a concern, it would be the cable is thinner than the one on my previous charger and is harder to coil neatly. Time will tell how well the cable will wear. IF you are NOT hard wiring this charger, pay close attention to Emporia's recommendation for outlet quality. I used a Hubbell. Expect to pay $50 for the outlet alone. Wiring and breaker are another $70 or more. Labor depends on many variables including the length of the cable run, access to the main breaker. No matter whether you plug-in or hard wire, your main service needs to be 150 AMPS at a bare minimum; mine is 200 AMP which works fine with our HVAC and electric dryer on at the same time as charging.

No funciona
La caja recibe corriente eléctrica, pero no saca la corriente eléctrica, los arquitectos de la obra en donde lo pusimos no lo abrieron inmediatamente, sino cuando terminaron la obra (después de 45 días) y ya no hay opción de devolución, está pésimo ya que es un artículo muy costoso y ya lo revisaron eléctricos y es una falla de fábrica.

Worked flawlessly and reliably for over 2 years
When purchasing our EV we did fairly extensive reviewing of home level 2 chargers. The Emporia fit the bill for us given the options of connections and installation for either 40 or 48 amp and provides charging speed of 9-9.5 kwh so takes 4-5 hrs to charge approx for us to 80%, the reviews at the time, and reasonably priced for what you get. It has not disappointed and worked well from the first charge and still going strong reliably. The App is not fancy but adequate and gives the settings options that are needed and provides data and info that is practical No regrets with our purchase and would recommend to others.

Best EV Charger for the price
After reading and watching multiple reviews online I decided to buy the Emporia. I’ve had it for 2 weeks now and it works fine no issues at all. First I like the look of it but most importantly it’s well built, good quality, installation options (NEMA14-50 or Hardwired), easy to install, up to 48A, good price and the app is super easy to use. I had it installed hardwired by my electrician to get the maximum amperage from my charger. The amperage can easily be adjusted using the app from 12A to 48A by 4A increments depending on your circuit breaker. Connecting my Charger to my wifi literally took seconds. Compared to other chargers this charger gives you more charging amps at an excellent price. Also, if you loose power during the night and power comes back this Emporia will restart automatically charging your car which is not the case with some other brands that need to be reprogrammed and restarted. So no surprise in the morning when you’re ready to go to work. I’m so happy with my purchase, delivery was fast. I highly recommend the EV Charger!!

At $600CDN for a 48 volt ev charger, and the reviews on YouTube that were quite good!
What I dislike are the 8 screws that are installed on the back side over the face plate. At a $105 an hour the electrician took 15 minutes to install all 8 screws... I personally think this is a design flaw. It should have been two top clips and one or two screws at the bottom of the front panel. Simple and easy to install! The installation went well... The overall price and quality are a good valve . Only time will tell if it was a good buy .IF it breaks I have to ,take it apart and send it to the company, and wait for them to repair ev charger.
