I bought this for a beer making kit I got. I really like it because it saves a ton of time and is extremely easy to use. At first I was afraid it would be difficult to use as someone who had to make beer this way for the first time (mr beer was my actual first kit, but I didn't need a siphon or anything for that. Since then I've moved on to other kits although I still liked the Mr. beer. Just the second batch of mr beer kit came out green and exploded everywhere. First batch of mr. beer was great, but I decided to try another kit anyways). Long story short, it does its job and it does it well. Don't do it the long and difficult way. Spend the few extra bucks on a siphon and you'll really enjoy the difference!

One of my favorite wine making accessories
One of my favorite wine making accessories! It cleans easily, stores easily and makes racking or bottling very simple without having to suck on the tube. I use it for mainly 1 gallon batches, but it also fits a 2.5 gallon barrel jug I picked up at Walmart for $11. If you make 5 or larger batches, you need the regular size auto siphon. Made of sturdy materials and with some care, it should last a wile. Buy an extra in case it breaks because 2 is one and 1 is none.

Didn't get what I thoughtni was buying.
It's just the auto syphon. No hose is included. Really stupid thing to do. Product works well other than that

This siphon provides an easy method for bottling from a smaller container
I use this siphon obtained from Home Brew Ohio to bottle Kombucha tea from 1-gallon brewing jars. You need to attach 5/16" (or ⅜") siphon hose to it (I used Midwest Homebrewing and Winemaking Supplies' 6 ft 5/16" ID siphon hose for this) which is the only real tricky part because the siphon hose must be warmed sufficiently and you need to be gentle when you work the hose onto the tip of the siphon pump tube - too much pressure on the bend could possibly break it at the bend. The hose doesn't need to go on far, maybe ¼" to stay put.You must sanitize the pump and hose, which can be done by siphoning hot water or a food safe cleaning solution through it (and repeating the process to rinse it thoroughly inside and out) before and after use.To get the siphon to fill the bottle you use a pumping motion which quickly gets the liquid moving through the hose. The instructions imply that you only need to do this once which may be true but the way my bottles had to be set up I had to keep pumping (which is easy-peasy) to keep the liquid moving. I recommend using a siphon hose clamp (which I also obtained from Home Brew Ohio), in order to shut off the flow when you need to move the hose from one bottle to the next and when you are finished filling the bottles, as liquid stays in the hose and can end up all over the counter if you are not really nimble with the hose.I used a setup with a large silicone funnel that fit my bottles so that the business end of the hose with the clamp about a foot from the end could be stuck in the bottle and the silicone gave it sufficient purchase to stay put while I pumped the liquid in. As one bottle was full, i found I needed to hold the siphon in the container with one hand while with the other hand I clamped the hose shut and moved the funnel and hose to the next bottle.

Defective or just trash, great customer service
Updated review. The first siphon I got did not work. I was very frustrated. I reached out to customer service through their website and they have been very prompt and helpful to resolve the issue. I have not ordered a replacement yet but I am hoping that resolves the issues I was having with the original.

As seen, works and cleans easy
I'm using this to get kombucha out of the 1 and 2 gallon jars I brew it in and into a couple of different types of bottles. It works very well. Totally easy, just slide the inner plunger part up and down. The length of hose that came with it was waaaaaaaay beyond my needs so I cut it down and saved it for later if I ever need to replace the part I'm using.Cleaning is easy, too. I just run water continuously in a cup/bottle in the sink and siphon it through the system repeatedly with soap and then with clear water.

Wish I bought it sooner!
I told myself I could just use the plane racking cane that my homebrew kit came with. That was sooooo much work and headache, plus it was messy! This... This is what I should've gotten before I started. It's super easy to use, built with good quality and it helped me not to suck up so much gunk when racking since I didn't have to constantly worry about the siphon action getting messed up and having to restart it the hard way. 10/10 would recommend to buy!
