Instant Relief and Invisible Protection: Bactine MAX Liquid Bandage
TLDR; A fantastic 2-in-1 product that combines the maximum OTC pain relief of 4% Lidocaine with an antiseptic liquid bandage. It’s perfect for hard-to-cover small cuts, scrapes, and abrasions, providing invisible, flexible, and water-resistant protection with zero traditional "ouch." A must-have for the first-aid kit, especially for children or joints. I’ve always kept Bactine around for its "no-sting" reputation, but dealing with bandaids on knuckles and fingertips is a constant battle. I bought the Bactine MAX Liquid Bandage because it promises to combine pain relief and germ-killing antiseptic with the protection of a liquid bandage. The brush-on application looked like the perfect solution for minor wounds in tricky, high-movement areas. I'm happy to report that this product is a game-changer, especially compared to the stinging of traditional liquid bandages. Detailing the Experience and Analysis This liquid bandage is genuinely excellent for minor skin injuries like small cuts, shallow scrapes, and hangnails. The 4% Lidocaine provides noticeable, quick-acting pain relief, often before the liquid dries. The formula feels gentle compared to the sharp sting of other liquid bandages. The brush applicator is precise and allows you to cover just the right amount of skin. The liquid dries quickly into a clear, flexible film that moves with your skin, which is crucial for joints like knuckles and elbows. It holds up well to washing hands and minor moisture, though repeated, prolonged exposure will cause it to peel (which is expected of this type of product). It's also great for sealing paper cuts and skin tears on the feet/heels. The product contains an antiseptic (Benzalkonium Chloride) to kill 99.9% of germs, addressing both wound protection and infection prevention in one step. This eliminates the need for separate antiseptic wipes and traditional bandages for most minor wounds. For deep cuts or wounds that require actual pressure, a traditional bandage is still necessary, but for everyday scrapes, this is my new go-to. Pros Maximum Strength Lidocaine (4%): Provides immediate and noticeable pain relief upon application. Antiseptic Protection: Kills 99.9% of germs to help prevent infection. No Stinging/Burning: Does not have the painful sting associated with many other liquid bandages. Flexible and Water-Resistant: Dries clear and moves with skin, ideal for fingers, knuckles, and joints. Easy-to-Use Brush: Allows for precise application to hard-to-cover areas. Cons Thin Coverage: May require a second coat for a robust seal on slightly deeper scrapes. Not for Deep Wounds: As with all liquid bandages, it is only for minor cuts and scrapes, not deep punctures or large, bleeding wounds. Verdict The Bactine MAX Liquid Bandage with Lidocaine is a 5-star essential for any home or travel first-aid kit. It successfully delivers on its three promises: pain relief, germ-killing, and flexible protection, all without the painful sting. For minor cuts and scrapes, especially on hard-to-bandage areas, this product is far superior to a sticky, bulky adhesive bandage and is absolutely worth the price.

Excellent liquid bandage with pain-relieving lidocaine
Bactine MAX Liquid Bandage with Lidocaine is a fantastic product that I keep in my first aid kit at all times. The lidocaine provides immediate pain relief when applied to minor cuts and scrapes, which is a huge plus compared to regular liquid bandages. It kills 99% of germs and forms a protective barrier over the wound to keep it clean and promote healing. The small bottle is easy to carry in a purse or bag for on-the-go use. I have used it on everything from paper cuts to small kitchen accidents, and it works quickly and effectively every time.

Reliable cut and scratch healer.
I used it on a scratch from tree branch and it worked very well. Shower and activities didn't wear it off. Good product.

Good for minor cuts
It dries in a white consistency but it works well and helps the cut to not be sore or sting.

Works great...
This really worked well for a cut I sustained in the kitchen. The Bactine was excellent for pain relief and the product dried quickly. I believe it also helped the healing process because I skipped one night and saw the difference so I would suggest using it at least two to three times a day. Definitely recommend.

Is mine defective?
This liquid bandage product is absolutely worthless. Unlike most liquid bandage I've used, which have been thick, and easy to coat a wound, this is thin and watery. That would be bad enough, but this NEVER dries, staying sticky for hours after application... Compounded by the fact you have to apply a lot of actually get any coverage, on account if it being watery. And don't get my started on what happens the instant it gets wet... It immediately turns white and takes on a stringy, mucus-in-a-swimming-pool consistency. This product is worthless to the point I imagine it may be defective.

Not Good.
It’s not viscous enough to hold the substance in place. Takes too long to dry. The pain relieving lidocaine doesn’t help at all.

Hurts less than New Skin, but doesn't adhere quite as well
Seems to work almost as well as New Skin, but it stings a lot less, so if you have small kids, I'd choose this over the New Skin brand. I taught my kid to tolerate New Skin when he was small (like 3, he just wouldn't leave bandaids alone, so for small cuts, I taught him to take the momentary discomfort, is just keep blowing on it until it stopped stinging and get him to sing a song) and I wish I would have been able to offer him this, it would have seemed less mean. Otherwise I'm a bit on the fence. I think I'm probably going to order a bottle of old school New Skin but I want to try the new waterproof kind they have, because none of this stuff sticks well to my dry skin in general and I have reapply a bunch of times during the day. That's how I can tell this stuff isn't quite as good as the regular New Skin, it doesn't adhere as well. I got the package around 2pm, it's 11:30 pm now and I've already reapplied it 4 times. Which is about 2 more than my old bottle of New Skin would have taken in the same time period (I still have it, used it yesterday, I ordered this because it was so close to empty). Since I used the New Skin I had yesterday, I can directly compare it with using this today on exactly the same cut on my finger.
