Q: Can this blade cut 1/4" aluminum?

These wheels breeze through 1/4" steel faster than any other cutoff wheels I have used, and aluminum is far softer, so cutting 1/4" aluminum should be like slicing butter.

Q: Can anyone tell me the difference between this blade, Makita A-93859-5 14-Inch Cut-Off Wheel, and the Makita B-10849-5 14-Inch Cut-Off Wheel

I bought one of each for the same concern, there is a couple dollars difference which is odd as well. I've compared the boxes, and the wheels they are identical from every spec and to the eye.My only logical guess is the same as with many parts, one is the older obsoleted model, it could be the most negligible formula change when the wheel was made for the newer model, and that requires a new part number, so whichever one is older, maybe the A, I would expect would go away sooner. I noticed something very similar with a palm sander platen, they came out with a new part but it had all the same specs and looked identical, but maybe the foam composition had the slightest change that you would need a forensics team to prove

Q: Can this be used to cut lumber?

Yes, but it mainly burns through the lumber. I've done it in a pinch but I would't recommend it.
