Amazon Basics Acne Treatment Face Wash - Daily Control Cleanser, Maximum Strength 10% Benzoyl Peroxide for Stubborn Breakouts, 5 Ounce

If you have ever used the Clean & Clear Acne Control product that used to be sold over counter several years ago (it came in a similar deep purple and white bottle) , you would know that this Amazon Basics version is the EXACT same formulation. I have been using this product for years and it truly is a staple product for keeping mild to moderate acne, acne fare ups and hormonal acne under control. I am a primary care physician and often recommend this to my patients and people with acne-prone skin along with other over-the-counter and prescriptions products for their personalized acne regimen. I haven't found another benzoyl peroxide cleanser that is affordable, accessible and as potent as this product. I do caution people that the benzoyl peroxide is known to bleach colored fabrics, so wash hands thoroughly after applying and be mindful of what the treated skin comes in contact with because it can bleach pillow and bed sheets, towels and clothes if used on the body as well. One thing I am not a fan of is it has a whitish pasty residue that sometimes lingers on the skin especially if the skin is oily at baseline, so be mindful of that. You may need do an extra rinse of the face to reduce the film appearance or applying moisturizer, sunscreen and/or makeup which can help to blend it in. It does have a mild menthol fragrance, so if anyone is sensitive to fragrance then do a skin patch test or purchase a fragrance-free alternative. I highly recommend this product due to how effective it is. Consistency is key.

I prefer this to the other popular brand for both cost and effectiveness. This product works well to prevent inflammation and doesn’t sting much or at all during application on compromised skin, but skin sometimes stings/problem areas feel hot as the product takes effect once this has already been rinsed off. When this after effect occurs, it helps to apply a gentle moisturizer and/or aloe to cool skin. I’d advise to not overuse this or leave on for longer than directed on the packaging, especially initially when skin has no tolerance, because it causes dryness and can harm the skin barrier with overuse.

As a man who shaves his entire body, I occasionally run into acne from ingrown hair and razor burn. I use this on trouble spots and it effectively helps keep the red bumps down. Overall it is gentle on my skin without drying it out or causing a burn. Overall I'm glad I purchased this and added it to my daily routine.

So I was born with really bad skin. As soon as I hit puberty, my skin broke out in acne - BIGLY! So as a teenager I finally got it under control. Then, as I aged, the dermatologists never mentioned that acne really doesn’t totally go away when one hits adulthood and beyond. So I’ve been trying to find a decent face wash for my acne and this product is actually pretty good. It smells great and it’s not all runny. It’s thick enough and doesn’t run off my wash cloth or off my face. And it doesn’t sting my face like many acne face washes do. It doesn’t cause my skin to get red and irritated. It actually feels pretty good and moisturizes my skin. I use it every day every morning. It’s great and it’s a great price compared to fancy name-brand brands. Totally worth it!

This face wash works well for acne-prone skin and does a good job of leaving my face feeling very clean. The 10% benzoyl peroxide formula is strong, so a little goes a long way. The only downside is that it can definitely dry out your face, especially with frequent use. I would recommend following it with a good moisturizer and possibly starting with once-a-day use to see how your skin reacts. Overall, it is an effective acne cleanser at a reasonable price, and I would buy it again.

Unfortunately, this product started to make my skin burn. I only wash my face at night with this and I use a thick moisturizer like aquaphor. I literally have to use ice cubes to attempt to cool down the burning sensation. It does bleach your towels so be careful. Also, it did lather nice and it felt like it was cleaning my skin, but sadly this doesn’t work for me and my acne.

I have sensitive skin. I also have very oily skin, especially my T zone. My face has a tendency to get dry though. I have allergies to SLS, perfumes, etc. I also have rosacea. This face wash has been amazing. The very first time I used it my face did tingle a LOT and get all red. It only happened the first time though. I was running in to an issue with battling the oil and tendency to get a build up of dead skin, while trying to avoid my face being dry. I was constantly ending up with my face being uncomfortably dry, but when I would try to moisturize it to combat the dryness, I would break out in a rash and/or acne. This face wash has helped my skin so much. I'm able to wash my face to where It keeps the oil in check and gets rid of the dead skin build up, but my face is not dry. My rashes have cleared up. It is also great that it is not expensive. I have a tight budget. Pro tip, use it on your arm pits to help combat body odor. It helps kill the bacteria.

It works, no new acne or breakouts when used regularly. But wow it is very irritating and drying! The reviews are not exaggerating! Be sure to have a moisturizer to put on right after. I find this a bit harsher than the panoxyl 10%, though they are comparing this to a clean and clear wash and I haven’t tried that one yet. Not sure if I’d buy it again, I’d rather just spend the extra few bucks for a gentler formula that does the same job.
