This is a well designed part. I purchased it originally because the previous owner had over tightened the preload and locking rings which damaged the threads on the shock body right where I needed the spring collar to sit. As this has a very wide thread surface it spans the damaged area (after cleaning off all burrs and debris from the threads that were damaged) and still holds everything securely in place. This also makes setting sag such an easy task that it gets done on a regular basis and experimented with, where before it would only get checked if something didn't feel right. I liked it so much I bought another one for my other bike.
