This monograph provides a marvellous selection of band and related images. From early days through to classic shots in wintry central Manchester, the photographs evoke the sound of the band more than words can. Quirky memories such as tickets to Gorton gigs show how bands start and the text shows how they can end.

I order both this and the New Order book, as I'm a massive fan of both bands. However... the interviews and foreword in the Joy Division one are printed in German! Yet the New Order one is the English version, and I ordered then at the same time. Takes away only a small amount, given that it's effectively a book of photographs. But still a little annoying.

Stunning, a fantastic piece of art, Kevin's wonderful photographs really bring to life one of the greatest bands of all time, an absolute must and well worth the money, fantastic!

Bought as a gift!

For me, Kevin Cummins is THE photographer of Joy Division. During the last two decades, it somehow seems Cummins' work for the band was so unfairly overshadowed by that of Anton Corbijn's. Probably thanks to a selection of Corbijn's work with the group now equally regarded as iconic - the two of his most popular examples circling online to the present day, portray Curtis in a melancholic mood, sitting turned away from the camera plus the band's photo session in a tunnel. While Corbijn himself was present there and then, and did some of the shooting with Joy Division (just as he did with many artists of the time), throughout the years I happen to have built a slight resentment towards the pompousness of how he is being portrayed as the band's "ultimate photographer", when in fact it was Kevin Cummins who now lets his own "50 shades of grey" tell a true story of the group that were as overrated as they became deservedly legendary. He remains the quiet, true "fifth member" of the band - reflecting their fragility, the imperfection and the aura. Control that may be forever lost, but a history book all of its own and shining.

I've only briefly browsed the book, but please tell me what song did Joy Division write called 'Infinity' as per the Jay McInererney foreword on page 03??? Surely this must be Insight, poor effort seeing as the lyrics are listed! I was also aware of the 'iconic bridge photo' from a previous reviewer before I purchased, but it really is c**p, I've had to really bend the binding back to see the band who are in the centre of the photo ie in the binding. I can't imagine how gutted I would've felt if I'd paid full whack for the book.

Negli anni ho acquistato tanti libri sui Joy Division, italiani e stranieri ma questo è sicuramente quello più bello ed intrigante. Molte delle foto contenute sono inedite, altre sono quelle storiche. Un libro da avere per ogni fan dei Joy Division. Un libro da avere per chi cerca emozioni. Da sfogliare mentre "Heart And Soul" è a tutto volume sul vostro impianto stereo.

Gorgeous images of the band presented in sturdy binding and printed on quality stock. The dust jacket protects a little over half of the book and is attractive. I was a bit concerned that it might be subject to damage from handling, but it fits snugly and does not slide around. The book arrived tightly shrink wrapped as well, which protected it during shipment. This is a stunning volume that should please any fan of Joy Division. The book will stand up to repeated viewings in regards to both the content and the durability of the binding.

This is an intimate look at the band that helped to define modern music and pretty much put Manchester on the musical map. The writing is straightforward, and is not burdened by rockstar-awe or I-was-there-and-saw-it-all pretension. The photographs are stunning. They brilliantly capture the starkness of early-80s Manchester, the sombreness of the band, and the tragic nature of Ian Curtis, may he rest in peace.

Ho comprato questo libro ad una ragazza appassionata dei Joy Division sapendo che lo avrebbe voluto sicuramente,. Le aspettative erano altre e il testo le ha confermate tutte.
