Q: Will the closed captions from my dvd disc (movie) display on my tv through the hmdi input

I don’t know why it wouldn’t. This simply replaces the red, yellow, and white wires used on older equipment.

Q: Can this be used to connect old bose to new tv?

My experience is that use the converter to hook up an old VCR to a new TV. It worked but, the picture on the TV is very poor.

Q: Is the RCA small enough to connect to a VCR? I feel worried it might be too big.

I used a male to male rca cable from the vcr to the female rca cable attached to the converter and then pluged the hdmi cable attached to the converter to the tv set. I also plugged the usb part of the converter into a usb adapter and plugged it in for power. Worked great! Hope this helps answer your question.
