Mobile Suit Gundam Movie Trilogy

Don’t buy both if your just trying to scratch your gundam itch, either one is fine, I think the audio is better on the films obviously and there’s no credit sequence every 20 minutes as well, I bought the original series and this thinking it was a continuation or unseen footage or just original stories from that era but it’s basically just the original show with better audio and without the credits. Good films

When I first saw this series back in 2001 (I believe) I loved it, despite the flaws the original series presented (and how horrible the English dub was). Even so it introduced me to a world where it doesn’t always workout in the end, and that not everything is as clear as black or white. I could go on but it would sound like me fanboying. So the picture quality is amazing, and you do see that in some parts they reanimated the the scene or left some parts out, the parts that are remitted usually had very little to do with the overall story. The best way to describe it is to compare this to Star Wars the ORIGINAL series and how they would touch it up. (#Rerelease the original cut) Ignore the description where it’s claimed to have an English dub the only language is Japanese with English subtitles. As previously stated the English dub is bad so to be fair you’re not missing much. (I prefer the subs I can’t understand Japanese) The only flaw is that the audio is not that good, it goes from the the dialogue being barely a whisper to a war erupting in the room. Then again to be fair I have cheap TVs and can’t afford a high one so take this comment with a grain of salt. Despite that I would still recommend this to anyone interested, me and my nephew enjoy the series a lot and I hope it brings you as much joy as it brought myself and my nephew. (Hail Zeon)

I've been waiting for this to get a domestic US release ever since I first heard about the Japanese re-issues almost 2 years ago. It's been worth the wait.I've seen these movies multiple times in mutliple formats over the years (I first saw these in 1985, dubbed on video, with no subtitles ^o^)...I have never seen them look this good. The picture is sharp, the color is rich and there isn't a hint of artifacting/glitching present.The audio has been completely remastered and re-recorded! The weapons, explosions and effects are completely redone for this version and it sounds fantastic. There are both a Dolby 5.1 and Stereo audio tracks (both in Japanese, there is no English dub present) accompanied by well done and detailed subtitling...nothing is omitted...(even bkg speaking is included!)The story is quintessential space opera. A war rages between the people of Earth and their colonies...but it's not a clear case of good guys and bad guys. Everything is not what it seems, intrigue and betrayal colors every event and the human drama serves as a vehicle for some amazing robot battles (rather than toy sales as is more common today).I cannot endorse a classic piece of animation released in the US more strongly. Bandai has done a fanstastic job bringing these movies to the US and if you've only seen the new Gundamn material...watch this and see where it all began. Among the top 5 anime ever produced....

Following RightStuf's release of Mobile Suit Gundam on Bluray and DVD, we also get the Mobile Suit Gundam movies. Collecting Mobile Suit Gundam I, Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow, and Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space, these 3 discs cover the three theatrical Gundam releases. Each movie is a condensed version of the show. For example, the first movie covers the attack on Amuro's colony up until Operation Odessa. The second covering from there up to the return to space after the Jaburo assault; and so on. The movie's hold up a lot better than the actual show due to the improved visuals. There is new footage added but it was only shortly after the TV show had come out so its not as jarring a difference as the Zeta Gundam movies new footage was.Otherwise, this is an excellent release. It is subbed only like the previous Bandai release and only available on DVD but to have it rereleased is awesome!

Nice trilogy of films. English subtitles only, I found myself staring at the bottom of the screen the majority of the time....I won’t lower the score based on my dub preference. Great for those that don’t want to invest too much time on the original, but honestly I would recommend the original TV series over these films. They flesh out the story, characters, include other battles. TV series has a charm that shouldn’t be missed. On the plus side, the trilogy adds little things here and there that make it shine. Barebones release. The best thing the trilogy did was cut out the Gundam core fighter gimmick always a plus. This is a must watch regardless, unless you watch the TV series. On the flip side after you watch this series, you can visit these films for a refresher from time to time. Remember English subtitles ONLY, no English dub included.

The movies are subtitles only; this isn't a big deal except for the fact I had intended to watch these while multitasking other things, which isn't possible with subtitles only. Ultimately, probably a better way to watch a Japanese movie, but requires undivided attention.

It's nice to have this collection on BluRay! It's a pretty bare bones release though. The video is in 4:3 aspect ratio so it isn't stretched to fit the screen. No special features and no English dub. Which isn't that big of a deal. I can appreciate the original voice acting and I don't mind doing some reading. Love Gundam so it's nice to be able to add this one to the library!

I really appreciated that the dvd set came with the included manual and all the old asdverts/survey stuff. The box itself had a few marks from age, but looks fantastic.

ついに、うっかり国内版BDレコーダーで再生できないソフトを買ってしまいました。しかし、なんとか視聴できる方法はないかとインターネットで検索したら「PCに再生ソフトを導入すれば安価で視聴可」とのこと。早速導入したところ視聴出来てカンゲキ!! ああ、一安心。　内容ですが、評価のの高くない「特別編」音声とのことですが、BGMがあまり耳なじみのない劇場版音楽だったりして少々違和感が無くもないですがステレオ音声だし、アムロの母・カマリアの声が倍賞千恵子さんでなく、あの池田昌子なは大変にGood!! どうしても一般俳優の方がアニメのアテレコをすると画面と声のマッチングがうまくいかないことが度々なので池田さんをカマリアの声に採用したのは大正解。倍賞さんのように声だけが突出することもなく自然な仕上がりになっていると思います。　結果的に第一作の作品の出来に貢献していることになったと思うは私だけかな(笑)

ＰＳ4で再生すると黄色の字幕が出るので、ＰＳ4コントローラーのオプションボタンを押してから「字幕」を選択し、OFFにする事により字幕無しの綺麗な再生ができます。一つだけ残念な事は、この本編がリメイク版の吹き替え・効果音などを撮り直した「特別版」だった事。音源はオリジナルを期待したのに残念でした。

For people that want to know Where It All Began, but don't necessarily have the patience, or tolerance to sit through the entire 40+ episode run, or watch 70s, TV budget level animation, this movie trilogy is a perfect way to hit the ground running and watch what is considered one of the seminal anime series for fans of giant robot SF stories. All the pivotal plot points are intact, though understandably compressed, especially in terms of how relationships are handled, but the animation is quite good for the time.Don't be fooled by the bright, primary colors and simpler mecha design of the 1970s. Mobile Suit Gundam is a full on, complex war story that tackles everything from political intrigues in the quest for power, to the role soldiers have, questioning their actions during wartime, to the messy gray areas of societies struggling for independence, and what actions are justified in trying to attain that. Gundam may be a miracle of merchandising in terms of robot toys, but there's a story worth thinking about, and one of the great rivalries of anime history preserved in this trilogy.

I was never put off by the old art style of the original gundam but the quality of the show was never quite there due to it being aired in the 70s. The bluray movies are cleaned up very well and the audio is surprisingly good. Keep in mind that it is only in Japanese with English subtitles hard coded on to them. Really good for an introduction to the series for people not wanting to watch the 50 or so episodes of the original.

I have very fond memories of the Mobile Suit Gundam show but I think the movies might condense the story perfectly. There are definitely plot points that are rushed. I think the relationship between Armuro and Lalah is skimmed over too quick but I still think these movies are near perfect. A minor nitpick would be the lack of an English dub but that doesn't affect my love of these movies.
