The iRig acoustic mic provide a clear, honest acoustic tone and terrific effects for IOS use.
I've been using my iRig Acoustic for a few weeks now. I'm a street performer and professional guitar player, and I'm always looking for high quality sound output for my guitars. This slide on microphone is an excellent solution. It is easy to use but packed with powerful features. I connect mind via the onboard USB port to my iPad and iPhone - both of them have the IK Multimedia Amplitube acoustic app - which provides several amp models, a handful of very useful effects including reverb, chorus, delay, and others. There is also a collection of guitar body models. The audio output is powerful and crystal clear. The guitars native tone is well represented and clean, and box noises (I like to use the box of my guitar for percussion when I play) have a rich and satisfying tone, especially when I add some bass effects to the signal!) Amplitube Acoustic also provides a remarkably accurate and adjustable feedback filter - which is critical when using a mic on an acoustic instrument! The mic cord is a bit delicate, but it will last a long time when treated with care. It only needs to reach a foot or two to attach to the preamp, which I clip onto my guitar strap. The mic also sound great when I don't use the Amplitube app - there is a direct audio output too, as well as an auxiliary input that I can use to blend in the signal from my guitar's onboard pickup - this is great when I need to boost my signal a bit - or when I want additional punch for my sound in a particularly noisy setting, but it isn't necessary most of the time - the microphone's output is terrific on its own! Overall, I couldn't be happier with this device. It lets me pump up the volume and give my audience a beautiful representation of my guitar's tone! I connect the output from my iPad or iPhone to my mixer using a miniplug to XLR adapter and it works beautifully. Don't let the plastic chassis of the preamp fool you - it is tough as nails!

Sound Quality wins over other problems
The unit shipped had both positive battery contacts soldered into one cell holder and both negative battery contacts on the other cell. Couldn't power the unit and totally useless. Unit returned. Replacement unit was manufactured correctly. I'm glad I had the unit replaced instead of just returning for a refund. Upsides: 1) I was extremely pleased with the sound quality. My classical guitar sounds incredible. The sound quality is better than my Taylor ES-2 pickup system and the Fishman Presys I have used. 2) Lots of features for the price: simple tone settings, aux inputs (and being able to balance aux input with mic), USB mini, and phase switch. Downside(s). 1) Considering the battery compartment, Quality control has some issues. 2) The overall design is geared to be movable between instruments, while this is good for expensive classical guitars, seems like they should design a more robust setup that can be permanently installed in a steel string acoustic. 3) Doesn't have some of the features of other pickup systems (e.g. tuners, EQ), but I don't really use those to setup sound...only in an emergency and I don't need another tuner. 4) Keep the electronics on your next design, but build a more robust system. The mic cable is extremely fragile. I would be willing to pay more for a unit that has both the issues I mentioned in 2 and 4 addressed. Haven't had the unit long enough to comment on battery life or robust the design is for stage use.

Love This Pickup!
I needed a swapable pickup for multiple ukuleles that do not have built in pickups. The beauty is, for the price of a good microphone, I get a pickup that can be used from uke to uke (except, unfortunately, my banjo uke - I'm working on that) and gives me on the fly remote volume control of the instrument. This pickup sounds great through my PA and renders a very nice, natural ukulele sound. The only issue I've had is trying to remove it quitely and fumble free from the sound hole when changing instruments. My solution has been to make a tab from cellophane tape which allows me to remove it by grasping the doubled over tab. Works great! Looks cheesy! But works great! I've played a few gigs now and am able to easily lift the pickup up and out without any fumbling or excessive noise. The only other thing I can add is to agree with some reviews that the cable running to the pickup is very light and appears delicate. But my earbud cables do as well. Only time will tell.

Good system but with shortcomings
Good points: microphone sound is very good, especially considering its size and placement on the soundhole. In general, when mixed with the piezo pickup of the guitar, it sounds great, gives an authentic sound and picks up my fingernail taps on the guitar face very well. Bad points: 1. The preamp box that comes with the mic has a grounding problem between the mic and mixed-in aux channel. When I touch the strings of the guitar, I immediately hear radio broadcasts. If I connect a jumper from the piezo ground to the output ground of the preamp, the noise is abated, but it's kludgy. 2. The electrical cable coming from the mic is extremely thin and doesn't appear to have any strain relief. I have a feeling it won't last long in a stage environment.

DON'T EXPECT HELP
I read the reviews, which were acceptable. I watched the demo videos online. This seemed like a nice solution for amplifying my ukulele. When it came in, I attached the mic to my uke, and plugged it into my Fender Acoustasonic 15 amp. Unfortunately, I couldn't get enough volume out of it (although the amp works fine with my guitar). My first impulse was to send it back and look for another solution, but I decided to give IK Multimedia customer support a try for some advice. So, I registered on their site and submitted a request for help. I received an automated email in return giving me a support ticket number and promising that someone would get back to me within 24 hours. Then I waited... and waited.... and waited.... It is going on three weeks now, and I have no response. This might be a nice device, but don't expect customer support if you have a problem. I returned it, and began my search for another solution. I ended up with a stick on piezo pickup and an acoustic driver which work fine.

Elegant and Simple Ukulele Pickup - From Italy!
I bought this for use on my Martin ukulele because I didn't want to modify the bridge for piezo pickup. First off, unlike typical Chinese products that come with unintelligible, unreadable manuals, this product comes from Italy and is wonderfully designed, documented and includes a beautiful carry case too! It worked first time, and very nicely. I slipped the mic over my Martin sound hole, connected the mic to the nice little preamp that comes with two AA batteries and a belt clip. The preamp is then connected to my Orange Crate 12 amp with a standard 1/4" (TRS) guitar cord. Voila! Amplified ukulele that sounds true in tone and can be adjusted to steel or nylon strings, and a range of tones from warm to bright. The manual is awesome for it's readability, clarity and design. When done, all the bits fit NICELY and EASILY back into the elegant, hard shell zippered case! I paid way less than $99 for this and I just don't see how anything else could top the sound and convenience.

Excellent tool for amplifying my ukuleles and recording them directly to my computer
I have several ukuleles that I wanted to be able to amplify and record output directly to my computer, but didn't want to have the expense of permanently installing pickups in every one. This little soundhole microphone does exactly what I needed. It is easily moved from one uke to the other and the sound quality is excellent. My only concern is the very thin, flimsy cable that runs from the pickup to the preamp box. It's holding up fine so far, but I'm being very careful in handling it to avoid any damage. If I was a gigging musician, I'd be very reluctant to use this because of the possiblility of rough handling and possible damage.

Beautiful clean acoustic sound (VERY HAPPY)
This is a fantastic product. I have always struggled with getting the best ACOUSTIC sound without sounding in any way like an electric guitar. To date my solution was to use a Zoom portable microphone...(which are fantastic, but to much of a headache in the sense I always get background noise). I have been writing 14 detailed guitar pieces that are going to be released in the next few months...some of which I have still to record. I was skeptical to be honest, I mean this thing is pretty cheap so I thought I would give it a go. I am glad I did.. the very first recording I made on it is a winner already and I couldn't be happier with the sound. The only negative I would have is that the chord to the microphone itself is light duty, and I do worry how long it may last. On the plus side tho is that it's very flexible...so where do you draw the line?. Overall, it's a must have if you want to get a crisp clean ACOUSTIC sound into your PC (I just USB it right in, and use recording software), and I would buy this again without hesitation. If you are on the fence, give it a go!.

Works great. This one safe the a Vorson electric ukulele ...
The small cord is a bit fragile, not sure how long it will last. I used it less for recording but to plug my ukulele to an amp and play with electric sound effect. Works great. This one safe the a Vorson electric ukulele I have. It was making a hum sound that I could not bear but with the Use plugged into this, I got quality sound out of my Uke ready to records, all hum or clicking went away, stage quality sound. I did not have a whole to put it on the electric use so I juste used the mix mode without the piezo pickup. Great product. I can now enjoy my Vorson Ukulele

Extremely pleased with the unit
Extremely pleased with the unit, the sound is great. The unit fits onto the the guitar strap or a waist belt easily and the actual pick-up fits onto my Taylor six string and Yamaha 12 string with ease. I have slight concerns about the about the durability of the pick-up wire, but if handled with care it should be fine. The unit and pick-up fit neatly into a robust gig box, further I have found that Duracell AA batteries are the best in terms of battery life. Overall a boon to the gigging acoustic guitarist.
