easy to use and great features for Seniors.
after making a mistake of buying a smart phone that was beyond me as a oap with health problems and not tec minded my Son suggested the Doro, their is not so much choice with the smart phones but they are aimed at Seniors, i bought the Doro 8100 and am thrilled with it straight away i was comfortable with it , it has a section of tuition for the phone in writing and very helpful video and my Son was surprised with me using it a lot and finding out things for myself. It also has a great feature where a relative or friend can work your phone from theirs with i think an app even though they are not with you. It is a easy phone to handle and not heavy plus takes good photo's and videos. I would highly recommend especially if you are not tec minded like me.

Brilliant for older people
My 78 year old mum has always had a basic phone that calls and texts and was anti iPhones, however, having been hospitalised she was no longer able to use the small keys and the lack of WiFi meant her phone wasn’t working in the hospital where there was no reception. I was dubious about her reaction to this phone but she loves it. She has adapted to using it quickly, the tutorial is really helpful, the full keyboard makes it easier for her to text and I am hugely impressed with it for the price. Both of us are very happy with this product.

A great basic android phone for my great aunt!
I have just finished setting this phone up for a close family member over 90! I'v been very impressed with the additional software and features Doro have added to this basic Android phone. While i don't think she could have set it up herself, for the scenario where a somewhat tech savy person is going to do the initial setup, I would highlight recommend. Doro have added a customised home screen, widgets and apps which making using the phone very easy and straight forward, as well as improving the menus and setup for increasing the size of fonts or icons. The plus pack comes with everything you will need, a case, screen protector and charging stand which can hold the phone without removing the case. The phone itself is a low end spec, and can be a little slow if your used to iPhone's ect, however, for this use case its perfectly fine.

Not simple or customisable enough
A decent phone for the price. At least they are trying to make something simpler for the more technically challenged. My 86 year old Mother is no better with this than her standard Android phone, though, in other words she can't cope. Some of the menus are more straight forward than standard Android and some "buttons" in the GUI are named with their function. But you can't customise the phone enough. I just want Mum to have phone calls and Whatsapp only. You can't simplify it that much. You can't rename icons e.g. rename "WhatsApp" to "Video Calls". Maybe this is an Android limitation. A shame as you can rename icons on a PC. The phone has worse 4G reception than the cheap Huawei it replaced. Wireless has disconnected for no obvious reason. These are key deficiencies as the user cannot cope with any difficulty. It just needs to work. Mum needs a phone someone else can set up for her to do only what she needs and to make it as simple and foolproof as possible. This phone isn't it, unfortunately. Plus you can't get the cradle for it.

AVOID! Dangerous and not fit for purpose - Phone should be taken off the market.
DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE - PARTICULARLY FOR ELDERLY OR VULNERABLE PERSONS. Bought this for an elderly relative particularly because it has the 'alert' function, so if the owner has a fall or gets lost, they can press a button and be directed through to their pre-arranged contact. However, the button (which needs to be pressed three times in a succession) is too sensitive and has gone off several times by accident causing a blaring loud alarm at both the owner end and on the phone of the agreed contact. It has gone off when just being picked up for use and also when being carried in a case. Relative got so upset by setting alarm off accidentally so many times that we have had to disable the function - negating the point of getting the phone in the first place. As a couple of other reviews have stated, the connection on the SIM card and SD card is terrible. I've bought three different SD cards for the phone now and none of them are 'recognised'. The SIM card itself slips frequently and loses signal leaving my relative unable to make or receive phone calls or texts... until I travel back there (40 miles) and reinsert the MICRO SIM into the TINY, FLIMSY tray with no idea how long it will stay connected. The battery drains in less than a day and charging is slow. The phone and charger also get VERY hot when charging so be careful. Audio notifications on various apps and messages are erratic. Basically, the whole reason I bought this phone was because it was recommended for elderly people / people with arthritic hands, and it had the safety alert. The phone has actually proven to be more dangerous than a dirt-cheap phone because my relative has been left so many times with no signal and been unable to contact anyone, has no working SIM card, and gets scared half to death whenever the blaring safety alert goes off randomly. Really annoyed because having forked out £200+ for the phone, SIM cards and case, DORO wouldn't deal with me and fobbed me off back to Amazon...and Amazon wouldn't refund until they had received the returned phone. I explained that unless they would refund me so I could BUY A NEW PHONE I'd have to take the phone from my relative, wipe the data, send it back and this would leave my elderly and vulnerable relative without any lifeline at all for the duration of the entire return and reorder period. However, they didn't care and said I had to return it and then buy a new one when they approved the return. They obviously assume I just have another few hundred quid ready and waiting to buy someone a new phone. Thanks, Amazon - I mean you're only the richest company in the world.

First smartphone for elderly parent.
Purchased for elderly parent, who’d been using a very basic Nokia for years, but the 3G signal is soon to be cut off. Quite a palaver to set up, he definitely would not have managed it himself! It seems disappointingly slow, even when connected to WiFi. I think he will take to it easily, now that it’s ready to use. He will enjoy the ease of checking his emails without firing up the PC, and it will give us some peace of mind to know that he has the emergency button and GPS.
