Does this fully block the light or just filter it? I'm looking for something with that "black out" quality.

If you want black out I suggest you try another shade . I use this shade in my bedroom which goes morning sun. I have an aluminum awning over the window. It is not dark enough and o I place cardboard between the window and shade to block more light. I should have been more careful in picking a shade and bought true light blocking shades.
