Bigger than most fanny packs, less bulky than backpack, well made
Most of my hikes are less than three miles in local parks. I feel like a dork carrying a full backpack for water, valuables and a few conveniences. This pack is the perfect solution. I did have to buy smaller but adequate water bottles. In wilder areas there is still room for some safety gear. The construction is high quality and it seems durable.

Lightweight hillwalking perfection.
I have been walking the hills and mountains of the UK and Wales for many years, and have for the majority of walks used either a 36ltrrucksack or a larger 65ltr backpack.... Now, as I'm getting a older I don't tend to venture out in really inclement weather and certainly don't want to be carrying a heavy pack on my back, so I researched for alternatives, and as my other 2 packs are Osprey I wanted to keep with the same brand! Enter the Osprey Talon 6..... This is a waist pack and is just the thing for day walks in the spring, summer and early autumn. Now your definitely not going to get a massive amount of kit inside, but what you can fit for its size is very, very impressive and it also has a lot of pockets to store smaller items It's has: 1 large main pocket. 1 smaller, but still roomy pocket. 2 pockets on the hip belt (1 each side) 2 drop in pockets to hold bottle or flasks with elastic toggles I have managed to fit: Light weight waterproof trousers. Lightweight waterproof coat Water bottle 0.5ltr flask Head torch Small first aid kit 4benergy bars Admittedly it's a tight fit for the rainproof gear.. But it's does fit and it's enough to get you out for the day on easy to medium walks and not worry if it's going to rain. The fit of the Osprey Talon 6 is for me perfect... It feels odd when you first put it on, but rests well on the waist/hips and after a few minutes you forget it there. With an excellent and well padded hip belt which supports it's contents and never feels off balance. I've been exploring the slate mines in North Wales lately, and I can tell you ducking and manoeuvring in some of these caves has never been easier... No more rucksack hitting the cave entrance/roof or the rucksack hitting the sides as you try to go just that bit further down a narrowing tunnel and then turn around...... It just gives you more freedom. The best way I can describe it is like swapping heavy clunky working boots for trainers! The pack does have a back cooling system called Airscape which allows air to circulate between the pack and your back.... Does it work? Well, of a fashion! It's never going to keep you lower back sweat free, but a sweaty lower back isn't really noticeable until you rest for a while or come to take the pack off... Then, yes you notice the wet lower back, but I'd say that's inevitable! Like all Osprey products the Talon 6 is really well made and comes with a lifetime (fair use) warranty once registered online. It really does feel like it will stand the rest of time. So, any negatives? Well, for me its accessing the hip pockets while walking. It's a bit of a faff/struggle... It can be done. The zip is stubborn to move and you have to get the alignment just right and jiggle the pull cord Again, this is the same with the water battle placement.... Yep, you can get it out, but putting it back is a different matter, especially with a full pack. Are these deal breakers... No of course not and certainly not for me! To take the Talon 6 off requires one waist clip and it's off your waste for easy access and this also gives a chance) excuse for a nice breather to admire your surroundings! Value fo Money: While the Osprey Talon 6 isn't the cheapest waist pack on the market, it is in my opinion one of the best quality packs out there and has been designed and put together by a Company with a fantastic heritage in outdoor equipment.... To me, the Osprey Talon 6 is worth every penny of the asking price! Summary: Excellent!! Just give it go and enjoy the freedom this little pack gives you... You definitely can't over pack with things you don't really need, and I believe you'll use it far more often than you think.
