Q: Why does it need distilled water? Buying the water as well will prove an expensive affair.

I think it is because tap water contains minerals that can form deposits which could clog the parts...bought distilled water for 3.99 for 5 litres ..which for me is not bad compared to the risk of my steamer breaking down.

I don’t see why not as long as you give it a really good clean after!
