iSpring WGB32BM Iron, Manganese Whole House Water Filter System

We first contacted a water filtration company (not Culligan). They wanted to install a $6,000 system (minus 10% military discount). We are on a well, so I continued to research filtration systems that I could install myself. I liked the reviews on the Ispring WGB32BM. I called the company and talked to Nick. He answered all my questions. I texted a couple of more questions and always got a quick response. I ordered the system and the UVF55FS ultraviolet light filter. We have pex water lines and I installed the system myself using mostly sharkbite fittings (more expensive but much easier to use; plus the fitting can be "disassembled" if necessary). Since installation we have noticed that our skin isn't as dry, we don't have "slime" buildup (taken care of by the uv filter), the water tastes "better". (I never had a problem with the water but my wife wouldn't drink it before I installed the filters). We haven't noticed the yellow/orange stains in the sink and toilet. The dogs seem to have noticed a difference as well (we keep two water bowls, one filled with store bought water and one with tap water. The dogs always favored the store bought but now drink equally out of both. I took the caution of not tightening the filter canisters too much just a bit too literally and had some leaks in the beginning. So I unscrewed them, hand tightened and then tightened 1/4 turn with the wrench and haven't had any leaks since. The only negative is the filters (except the sediment) are heavy. Add the weight of the canisters and they can be hard to handle. That's without them being filled with water, which there isn't a way to drain them when it is time to replace the filters (they drain some when you unscrew them but are still very heavy). Plus they are long, so trying to unscrew them and hold to keep them from falling is tricky. With the uv filter and fittings I have less than $1,000 invested. I will figure out some way to make changing the filters easier before that time comes. Overall we are very happy with the system. 2.16.24 I encountered an issue with the uv bulb. I tried ordering through Amazon but the bulb was unavailable. I called iSpring and talked to John. He checked inventory to make sure he had bulbs in stock and sent a replacement. While John was checking inventory and taking care of the order he kept up the conversation instead of there being "dead air". I replaced the sediment filter. I have a Black and Decker Workmate collapsible workbench. I set this up under the filters, set a large pan on top and slowly unscrewed the filter and lowered it into the bucket. Then I took the filter out before pouring the water out of the bucket. I will try a pair of gloves next time which hopefully will help me grip the canister better when it comes loose. You are going to spill some water (and some will come out as you unscrew the canisters) no matter how careful you are. 8.31.25 I was re-installing the quartz tube and uv light after cleaning the tube and broke the tube (we have the WGB32BM). I couldn't find a tube on Amazon, Home depot or Lowes websites. I called Ispring and talked to John (there isn't a constant turnover at Ispring so you know when you talk to customer service you are getting someone who knows the systems). John, as usual, was quick to help. He checked Amazon, HD and Lowes just to make sure the tube wasn't available on their sites. He took care of my order and I had my tube and was back in business in a couple of days. Thanks again John.

UPDATE AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS OF USE... Had a couple small leaks from the top of the blue filter housings. These were easily fixed by further tightening the housings. This leads me to my only complaint so far... the installation instructions advise against "overtightening" the blue filter housings. Just exactly what does this mean? I was careful not to torque the housings beyond what I thought was correct. However, the slight leaks required me to tighten even further- and actually quite tight. The instructions should be more clear on the correct amount of tightening required. Also- pro tip- before attempting to tighten you'll need to relieve pressure on the system by opening the bypass branch and opening the drain valve. Otherwise you'll be tightening against the pressurized system- which is not possible. Other than this unclear instruction, the system continues to work great and the results are excellent. INITAL REVIEW: Today I installed this system in my house. It took about three hours of total work. The house has moderately hard well water, and I installed this unit between the well and softener. Although the softener is doing its job, we were still not pleased with the odor and color of the soft water. Several light clothing items and bed sheets have been stained, and the sinks accumulated reddish stains- so we decided to purchase this iSpring system. I have noticed an immediate improvement in color and odor- but this is way to early to declare victory... we need to experience it over some time. That said, I wanted to comment on the ease of installation. I've seen several reviews where buyers complained about leaking and other difficulties. I can say that I had absolutely no problems in the assembly/installation. No leaks, no missing parts, easy to follow instructions. I am a very confident DIY guy- so that helps I'm sure- but here are some essential DIY tips... 1) You do not need to hire a plumber!! Use PEX plumbing materials with copper crimp rings and plastic fittings. Plumbers will tell you to stick with copper, but this is nonsense! PEX is SO easy to work with and meets all codes. Use a Sharkbite fitting to attach to existing copper lines if needed, but otherwise save money and use the PEX crimp ring method. And, use a 1" male thread to 3/4 Sharkbite plastic reducer coupling to connect the filter manifold to your plumbing (assuming you have 3/4 lines). There are multitudes of YouTube guides for using PEX. I live in the Midwest and use Menards- they have all the materials needed in stock. 2) Assemble the entire filter manifold along with the PEX lines and by-pass valves on a 1/2 plywood panel on your work bench prior to mounting to the wall. This is so much easier than crimping PEX rings when the unit is hanging in a tight space at an awkward angle. After you finish on your bench, you'll have just two lines (in and out) to connect after you hang the panel in its location. (Don't hang and tighten the three filters until your unit is on the wall). Doing this pre-work on the bench also minimizes the time your water is shut off. I only had my water off about twenty minutes to make the two splices needed. 3) Use the plumbing layout guide provided. I saw a complaint that someone couldn't relieve pressure when taking off a filter- but this would never be a problem if the instructions for positioning by-pass and shut-off valves are followed. Hope these tips help. We are looking forward to evaluating the water quality over the next several weeks to confirm what we've initially seen.

iSpring whole house filter system We needed to replace an older oversized filter system for our well water. Based on the many positive reviews about iSpring we decided to give it a try. We did not regret it, on the contrary we were agreeably surprised with the quality of the products and excellent technical support. After a few phone calls and mail exchanges with the technicians, we got all the information needed for a successful system setup. It’s not so much about just buying any filter, but the right filters, combination, tailored for the specific application and water source. Worth to mention that the technical support staff was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Based on their recommendations we installed : WSP jumbo spin down filter 100 microns, 3 stage filters sediment combo , iron manganese, heavy metals, plus an additional WDS 150K to reduce scale. This purified water goes into a reservoir tank 1100 gal and from the tank to an additional carbon block filter and the UV 55FS. Result: crystal clear water, no odor whatsoever, good in taste and much better than most of the bottled waters. The installation was no problem and everything worked flawless, no water leaks. However, only after a few weeks the UV lamp burned out and this failure was reported to iSpring. The problem was immediately solved by John from technical support, there was no need for lengthy explanation, he arranged to send us all the required parts a new ballast resistor/switch, a flow meter and wow even 2 replacement lamp’s. Replacement was easy and everything works perfect. The filters are now in use for more than ½ year and there is no pressure drop along the filters and the water is as pure as it can be. What more do you want? 5 stars and highly recommended.

This is a preliminary review since I won't be able to say anything for a month or so about the most important feature to me--rust removal. This is on a municipal water supply which deposits noticeable rust stains over that length of time. The problem is not so severe that an improvement in water quality was immediately obvious after filter installation. Chlorine taste was not an issue before so there was no noticeable effect there. What I CAN say is that I received the filter system on schedule and it more than fulfilled my expectations with regard to beefiness. It's a good-sized system with filter cores that I can imagine lasting for their rated lives. One interesting and unexpected discovery is that each core indicated its respective life expectancy and those did not necessarily equate to the 1 year estimate indicated in the listing. The sediment filter indicates 3-6 months, the carbon filter up to 12 months, and the iron/mag filter 50,000gal at 3ppm iron level. That was not too alarming since the sediment filter is the most inexpensive to replace and the other 2 are still likely to last longer than a year in my system. The second feature I can comment on currently is ease of installation. My assessment of this is that anyone with basic household plumbing experience (involving use of PVC pipe, fittings, etc.) should be able to handle the mounting and leak-free piping of this product without any problem. Where it gets tricky, however, is in the splicing into the existing cold water supply. Many hardware stores stock at least some of what is required to make this easier, but I needed to visit several to obtain the type of fittings that ensured success without the nightmare of leaks after installation. Being experienced with the associated difficulties, I did NOT wish to use any sweat (soldered) couplings--hey, it's the 21st "Sharkbite" Century! Suffice it to say that it did take some planning, hunting, and installation finesse, but in the end I was please with the result--NO leaks and decent aesthetics. You can always pay a journeyman for even greater beauty and to avoid the stress, but I preferred to save that extra $500. Hopefully I'll remember to return to this review and provide a water quality update in a few months. For sure I can say that I've worked with water filtering systems in the past so I can say this one is the real deal--nothing magical about it. It WILL remove sediment down to the rated 5 microns and it WILL remove chlorine. Not so sure about the iron/mag removal, but will aim to keep you posted. After all, you deserve that if you've read all the way to HERE!

EDIT: Original review below iSpring reached out to me following my original review and offered to send another head unit so that I could try again. After a few weeks of back and forth I finally was able to get them my shipping information and they sent me new head unit. This time I used plastic connectors for the inflow and outflow values. That and a lot of Teflon tape kept any leakage from happening and I did not have to over tighten the connectors. I'm not sure if the same would have happened with metal connectors but I was being extremely cautious. For the filter tubes, I pulled off the O-rings and put silicon grease on each one and then added some silicon putty over the threads on those and hand tightened everything. This time I had no leaks at all. Finally everything is working as expected and everything seems to be doing what it should. Given the reliability of my iSpring RO unit, things should work fine from here on out. ORIGINAL REVIEW: First off, I have an iSpring RO unit under my sink and I love it so when I looked to upgrade my whole house filtration from a simple carbon filter to something better I had no issue buying one of these. Installation appeared to go well. The 1" NPT threads are plastic so be very careful of cross threading if you use metal connectors. The instructions say that the O-rings on the filter holders are pre-lubricated so I took them at their word. Got everything hooked in, mounted on the wall, and I put the filter holders on -- hand tight and then used the removal tool to tighten about another half turn. Hooked it into the water supply and turned on the water. Both the inflow and outflow valves leaked the the filter holders did as well. OK, tightened up the filter holders another quarter turn (getting hard to tighten them more) and put a wrench to the inflow and outflow valves and tightened them up. Leaking slowed all around but did not stop. Put some muscle into tightening the filter holders, removed the inflow out outflow connectors, reapplied a boatload of teflon tape (about 20 turns), reconnected them and tightened them up again. So tight infact that they were starting to bite into the plastic. Turned on the the water once more. Finally got some progress. The filter holders no longer leaked nor did the outflow value. The inflow valve still had a slow leak so I tightened it some more. The leak would not stop and I was biting into the plastic now. So, once more, I turned off the water, unhooked the valves (fortunately they were Sharkbite valves so I did not have to remove the one that sealed from the filter unit) and pulled the filter off the wall to see what I could do with more room. Let me tell you this thing is heavy when the filter tubes are full. Removed the inflow valve, added even more teflon tape and went to put it back together. Apparently I used too much tape or something because I cross threaded it. Reversed as soon as I noticed and tried again. Still leaking. I pulled it off the wall again, decided to remove the filter tubes and drain the water so I could handle it easier. They would not come off. In order to stop the leaking from the "pre-lubricated" O-rings, I had tightened them to the point that I needed to use a rubber mallet to loosen them up. So now my unit in back in the garage. I will be trying again. I will lubricate the O-rings. I will lubricate the inflow and outflow values and use some combination of teflon tape, silicone sealant, and plumber's putty in a final attempt to get this to work without leaks. If it does not, I will probably be looking to return it because a leaky water filtration system is worse than no system at all.

Follow-up on Aug 31, 2024 I decided to have my prefilter discharge to the outside so I asked Sean to send me an additional length of blue tubing and the connection fitting. He was nice enough to do this and all is working great. Now when I manually turn the discharge nob the flushing water goes outside my basement and onto the grass in my yard. No more carrying a 5-gal container filled with water outside to empty it. I did have a plastic fitting that snapped with the threads embedded in the brass discharge valve and fortunately Sean had sent two so I was lucky. I did ask for another to be sent to me just in case I have to disassemble the tubing again and I break the fitting. I must say…… iSpring’s customer service is tops. Anyone (especially Sean) I have communicated with always assists. Thanks to all! I installed the WGB32BM system along with the jumbo pre-filter WSP-J a week ago and all is great. The system works as advertised and my well water is now refreshingly clear, clean, odor-free and tasty. Many thanks to Sean and John for their patience with my questions and just generally their respect for the consumer. A couple of tips for those interested in this product… 1) Test your water using a reputable lab to make sure you know the water quality you’re working with and what specifically you need to address with regard to it. Make sure to test for lead too! I was a little elevated so I installed under sink filters as a separate measure. Retested and Pb levels could not be detected. 2) Carefully read the instruction booklet and watch the installation video(s) online (YouTube is a good place). 3) if your water inlet to the filters is left to right you will need to reverse the filter manifold bracket by removing the 12 bolts, turning the bracket 180 degrees and then reinstalling the bolts. 4) It is a good idea to attach a 3-4 foot section of a 2 x 6 piece of wood to the wall where the filters are to be mounted. This will bring the filters away from the wall enough to easily work with them when installing the housings and also in the future when replacing the filters. 5) Definitely install bypass piping with at least one shut off valve. Also not a bad idea to install a drain valve in-line before the filters and after the pressure tank. 6) Make sure to add pressure gauges inline before and after the filters. This will allow you to monitor filter flow and know when to replace them. 6) it is very important to put 15 wraps of plumbers tape on all fittings to be installed on the housing manifold. 7) It is also important to lightly coat the housing o-rings with plumber’s silicone grease before you install it. 8) After installation is complete let the water run for about 15 minutes before using. The water will be a little cloudy for a day or so but not to worry. Again, this is a great water filtration system so far as I can tell. Update 12 mos later… System continues to work wonderfully. I had a bit of a sulfur smell for 10 seconds in early AM at my MBR shower so I called and Sean recommended use of iSpring’s GAC-KDF filter on place of the Carbon filter. It worked, no more smell and I can tell other minerals or metals are being filtered from my well water too by the way my hair feels after a wash/rinse. Thanks to Sean and iSpring for selling great products and continuing to provide sage advice.

Installation was straightforward. We saw immediate results with improved water quality. Product registration easy. A few emails with Sean and the warranty was activated.

It doesn’t work…..

Just got it installed. Easy installation, leak free with the use of Teflon tape and pipe dope on the 1" NPT fittings. Unit appears to be well built, solid housing. Easy instructions to change inlet side. One thing I wish it had would be a built in pressure relief or fittings on the bottom of the housings to easily drain the water and pressure to aid in filter changes. Overall seems good, improved my water quality.

Newly installed by a plumber yesterday. The water was originally rust coloured and wreaked of iron. Our hands would wreak of iron after washing our hands. Now, since installing our beloved filter, the water is crystal clear, taste and odour-free! LOVIN' IT! I can't yet comment on the longevity or the cost/frequency of replacement filters. Grateful for the immediate fix! It works!

I was attracted to purchase a system from iSpring based on the very favourable reviews on Amazon. This is a quality product. Installation with pex pipe and fittings was straightforward. You do need a fair amount of teflon tape on the brass fitting threads for a good seal. I had to re-do a couple of my pex connections but otherwise all went well. Test results showed significant reduction in heavy metals except for an odd result for iron. The filter system is located about 70ft from the house and the filtered water runs through pex pipe and fittings that have been in use for about 5 years. It is possible that this may have influenced the iron result. John responded immediately by shipping a replacement iron/manganese filter. The last test was taken at the kitchen tap. I have shocked the well, while bypassing the filters and have now installed the replacement filter. I will take a test sample in a few days this time directly after the UV filter' It will take about a week to get the results. I will re-visit my rating after that. I am impressed by the quick action by John to help solve my apparent problem. This company has earned its excellent reputation for service.
