I have a 4" thick shed door. Will this fit?

I don't think so, my door was 5" thick so I just fabricated an extension out of flat stock steel. Not ideal but it was my only option, ended up working good.

Packaging says, "also available for 3" doors". is there a part number? i can't find a 3" version anywhere - not even at national hardware.

National Hardware N101-659 25 Swinging Door Latch in Zinc Plated is for a 3-inch door, which is sold on Amazon. This latch is sturdy and easy to install. Only comes as Zink plated.

Will this work on a vinyl gate?

It would work in my opinion, but depet on how strong the vinyl is, you might want to find a way to reinforce the area you plan to mount it.

Can the bolt (Latch) be reversed so the bulk of the device is inside and just a handle outside? I need these for a Special use than what is shown

Use N165-506 Slide/Sliding Bolt Door/Gate Latch on the side you want lock access. Padlock it in the open or the closed position as you see fit, and use the N101-576 as a casual latch. If worried that a prankster could put a lock on the 101-576, cut off the locking flange.
