Talens Art Creation Gouache Paint Set, 24 x 12 mL Color Tubes

I got a couple of professional grade gouaches from Talens and had a lot of fun with them but did not want to spend the money to get a large set of them so I got these to experiment with to see if I would be interested in adding the professional ones later. I did a couple of really quick paintings on black paper to see how opaque they are. For the most part it is pretty opaque, I did have to do double layer on some of the colors, the yellow was still steaky after a couple of layers and adding more layers just caused the dry layer to lift up. There was a color difference in the vermilion in the professional tube I have and in these. Over all for the price I feel like they were good quality and great for experimenting with and for beginners in the medium. They not the best quality but I did not want to pay for the best. I will probably add the higher quality tubes as I want or need to starting with yellow.

This is a convenient and economical paint, great for travel, lovely soft velvety finish. I’ve enjoyed working with it.

I use RT watercolor and love them. Was introduced to Gouache and tried other brands before going back to RT. Both Gouache and Watercolor in the Royal Talens brand are perfect for intermediate artists and can be purchased at a very decent price.

Great pigment, first time using this paint . I really like it you can use a lot or a a little water and pigment is still bright and colorful

I bought this this set of paints because I thought that this would be similar to Royal Talens Extra Fine Quality Gouache and I thought that I could save money on buying their student grade paints. This set has a very nice range of colors; however, I had a hard time applying flat colors on paper and it’s very streaky even after mixing it with white paint. The consistency out of the tube is identical to their Extra Fine Quality Gouache but the finish result is very disappointing. Whether I apply it thick or thin, the paint just won’t appear streak-free. To be fair, my expectations were probably way too high because I do have their artists grade gouache, Royal Talens Extra Fine Gouache, and I absolutely love it. I can use it thin and get watercolor effects or use it thick and get flat, bold colors. So it’s clear to me that I should continue to use their artists grade paint and just use a few colors and mix my own colors from their mixing set. Overall, I do not recommend Talens Art Creation Gouache set because they’re too streaky and very difficult to handle. From now on I will only use Royal Talens Extra Fine Quality Gouache.

I use a number of gouache brands that I really love. This brand is more like tempura paint and not as opaque as I prefer but I can still use it for a different effect.

Tenía ganas de volver a usar gouache y tener una gama un poco más amplia de colores. Estas son perfectas y baratas. Algunos colores son un poco más transparentes pero se arregla con dos o tres capas. Sin duda las volvería a comprar.

Da ich schon lange male und in einigen Techniken geübt, wollte ich etwas Neues versuchen. Mich hat schon lange Ölmalerei interessiert, jedoch ist der Aufwand für ein Bild zu groß und vorallem teuer, deswegen habe ich mich erkundigt, ob es Öl-ähnliche Farben gibt und bin auf Gouache Malerei gestoßen und war auch schnell begeistert, da man mit deutlich besseren Mitteln ein Bild erstellen kann, dass wie mit Ölfarbe gemalt aussieht. Gouache ist eine Art Mischung aus Aquarell und Öl: Man kann es mit Wasser verdünnen, man kann damit dick auftragen und der Umgang ist ebenfalls leicht und angenehm. Gouache trocknet außerdem sehr schnell, was bei Aquarell- und Ölmalerei eigentlich nicht der Fall sein sollte. Man kann dazu also sagen, dass es eine Art "Brücken" Technik zwischen Aquarell und Öl ist. Ich habe die Gouache Farben am Montag bestellt und schon heute bekommen, der Versand geht also sehr schnell was mir natürlich gefällt. Das Paket ist leider etwas beschädigt angekommen und auch die eigentliche Aufbewahrung von den Farben war etwas eingedrückt, aber die Farbtuben selber waren noch ganz. Mir haben diese Royal Talens Gouachefarben vorallem interessiert, weil man gleich mit einer 24-teiligen Farbpalette eine große Auswahl hat und einen vergleichsweise bezahlbaren Preis hat. Ich hab mich auch sofort an das erste Gouache Bild gesetzt und ich bin wirklich begeistert! Die Farben sind schon pigmentiert, wenn man sie mit Wasser verdünnt - das heißt, dass die Farben noch mehr strahlen, indem man mehr und mehr Schichten aufbaut. Der Umgang ist wirklich leicht, auch wenn das schnelle Trocknen vielleicht erst abschreckend ist. Man hat genug Zeit, auf dem Blatt oder der Leinwand die Farben ineinander zu vermischen usw. Zusammenfassend habe ich wirklich nichts an diesen Gouachefarben auszusetzen, ich werde es auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen und auch wieder kaufen, wenn die jetzigen Tuben leer werden.

I got these for practice and to try out the medium again. These may be student grade gouache however, they're very vibrant, matte and opaque! With 24 colours, it's perfect for beginners! They reactivated easily and made lovely, watercolour-type washes. There wasn't any issue with smell or mould either. However, they aren't light-fast so I'd recommend sticking to sketchbook work than selling completed pieces when using this. For the price, amount of colours and opacity, these are a perfect beginners set for practice or for school. I'd recommend a few things if you're starting out with this set: - Open the tubes vertically, with the lid facing upwards. I found some of the tubes to be quite pressurised so the paint spews out a little bit when you first open it. This prevents the paint from being wasted. - Swatch them before use. Some of the colours dried slightly different to the packaging. Plus, you get to feel the medium before you make a piece. Also the paints, straight from the tube, are slightly tacky in texture; don't be put off by that. Adding a tiny amounts of water will help loosen it. - Mix the paint fully before swatching. Some of the pigment had separated from the binder when I first placed them onto the palette. I'd recommend doing this with a damp brush. - Use thick paper (e.g. watercolour or mixed media paper) as it'll help absorb the water and create layers easier. Also, do the layers from thin to thick as it'll help stop the paint from cracking. - Practice mixing some of the colours. I found some of the greens from the tube to be a bit unnatural for landscapes so practice colour mixing and see which combinations suits your personal palette! - Keep them in an air tight container and seal the caps well. It'll stop the tubes from drying out from inside the tube. If it does dry out in the tube, you can always cut the tube, place it in a small jar and reactivate it with a bit of water!
