My 25 year old Xantrex 40 amp charge controller died. I needed a replacement to keep one of my solar panel set working. I bought EPEVER 40A MPPT Solar Charge Controller 12V 24V Auto, for all of the features it has. Installation was easy, it excepted my #8 solar wires no problem. The remote readout has plenty of cord to place in a highly visible area. Programing was a little tough it took me a while to fully understand the instructions. The factory settings worked just fine initially but i wanted to fine tune the Controller for my batteries. I like the remote, it shows panel voltage and amps and the MPPT output to my batteries, the panel amps are boosted with MPPT. which is always visible on the Controller's remote. My panels are 25 year old as well, so they are not the highest efficiency panels, this controller maximizes my panel's output. The temperature sensor is great to have and easy to install. I'll wait a month or two, but may replace my other controller if the EPEVER 40A MPPT Solar Charge Controller continues to function properly.

Shipping was really quick considering I'm in a Remote area. Product was packaged very well and was super easy to hook up took me about an hour to put my whole system together. Quality is very good nice well built units.

I have had the charge controller running for almost two months now. I am impressed on the quality, appears to be built solid. The tracking is accurate and if it was not for the snow right now i would be converting some nice energy.

So far, I'm very happy with this product. My setup is primarily to power my home network gear (internet, wifi, switch) in the event of an outage. I have two 12v batteries and a Xantrex Freedom Xi (1000W) pure sine wave inverter. I did read some other reviews and made sure to use 2 gauge wire from the batteries to the inverter. The charge controller stays cool and keeps everything running well. Someone mentioned low amperage output but what I noticed was that the amperage output only displays what is really being used. Example: If the inverter is off, the charge controller shows a very low amp value, but as soon as I enable a heavy load, it displays the expected higher amperage. I will attach two pictures, one showing 10 amps and another with 9.7 amps output.My only complaint and it's very minor is that it doesn't have a place to attach a ground wire. I have a ground wire looped through one of the mounting screw holes, not the best, but it's functional and I know it's grounded.

Bought this on Jan 24 2020, and it worked great until i hooked up too many panels in series today (119vDC). Note: there absolutely no PV input protections on this, so be careful when connections and do your math on max volts/amps. I had it connected to a Raspberry PI using the modbus data port, which sent the data into MySQL then displayed it using Grafana. Worked really well, totally bummed when the magic smoke was released. RIP.
