Coming to initial fame supporting John Lee Hooker and Champion Jack Dupree during the 1960s, English blues band The Groundhogs have recorded a wealth of material that continues to be inspirational to fans to this day. Originally released in 1988, Hogs on the Road sees special reissue. Review: Although the Groundhogs never released an official live album during their 70's heyday, there have subsequently been numerous live releases made available. Sifting through the myriad of live Groundhogs CD's is something of a minefield, not least as some of their live material turns up repeatedly on various different titles. Quality control is also an issue; for what worth, I rate both the BBC Live In Concert and Live At Leeds '71 discs highly, but for me Live At The New York Club 1991 finds a seemingly tired and disinterested band merely going through the motions. Hogs On The Road however comes highly recommended! Recorded in Germany in 1987 in support of Back Against The Wall, the band are energetic and attack the cross section of 'Hogs material with panache. Sound quality is excellent on this 2 CD set and, more good news, the tracklisting includes 3 additional songs which are not listed on the packaging, namely Split parts 1, 2 & 4. Excellent live 'Hogs! Enregistré au cours d'un concert en Allemagne en décembre 1987, le trio Groundhogs nous prouvent encore une fois qu'il est un groupe de scène. Une puissance de feu rarement entendue pour l'époque déferle en vagues sur le public. Dave Anderson le bassiste et Mick Jones le batteur créent une solide assise rythmique permettant à Tony McPhee de décocher des solos d'enfer ! Un blues-rock décharné, direct, sans fioriture (si ce n'est quelques effets wha-wha) caractérisent leur musique. Le guitariste chante aussi et, de sa voix « rockayeuse » accentue le côté puissant de son répertoire. Un excellent live où les titres, comme souvent, sont prolongés pour permettre aux musiciens de s'exprimer avec aisance. (2 CD / 12 titres / 95mn40)

This purchase was one I couldn't resist, I have been a Hogs fan for years. Gritty music, a great live act if you get a chance go and see them in action take it.

Depuis 1968 Tony Mc Phee, fondateur des Groundhogs, produit des albums de qualité. Du blues rock absolument super. Tous les CD sont recommandés. Là il s'agit d'un double live de 17 titres et non 12 comme annonce la pochette. L'enregistrement date de la tournée allemande de Décembre 1987, du temps de "back against the wall". Mc Phee (guitares et chant) entouré de Dave Anderson (basse) et Mick Jones (batterie) ,leader de ce power trio , nous fait partager sa passion du blues rock. C'est "split" en 3 parties qui est omis sur la pochette. J'adore le "groundhog blues" en rappel.
