Very expensive but very good
Love this coffee. I am not a fan of the $$. It is was $13 or $14, I would buy it. I drank it for over a year but found an ultra light coffee that is the better for less (a wood ultra light roast with high caffeine and low acid). You won’t go wrong with it (it will knock your socks off in the morning). But as I said, it is $$.

Does As Advertised
High caffeine makes some people feel calmer (smiles) and this coffee is surprisingly pleasant to drink.

Get up & get going!
I just bought my first bag of the whole bean version of this coffee. I really like it. Its flavor isn’t as bold as some of the other high-caffeine coffees I drink. But it doesn’t have the aftertaste of some of the others as well. Many times I’ll use a double chocolate organic coffee to mix with whole beans I grind myself. I enjoy the flavor combination with cream. This pairs well with that combination.

Bringing my review over from their website.
Okay fellow coffee drinkers. This coffee isn't what I expected. Upon opening the bag, that subtle coffee smell was on point. Kinda reminded be as one of Williams sisters from tennis: lovely, yet ready to turn into a MOAB when ready. I put some grounds in my pour over and watched the coffee being made with anticipation. When it was good to go, I smelt the aroma of the coffee as it neared my mouth. As I had my first sips, it was surprisingly pleasant. Didn't taste as strong as I thought. More smoother and like something I would drink while listening to calm jazz. I finished my cup with a slight disappointment... until a couple hours later. I'm at work getting things done faster than I usually do. I haven't stopped to take a break. As I sit at my desk, I put on my headphones and listen to "To Glory" from Two Steps From Hell as I swiftly demolish my workload for the day. I didn't stop there. I am on a warpath at work! I am working as I never worked before! THE STAMINA I AM FEELING IS NOT MORTAL! WITH THE FEROCITY OF CERBERUS COMBINED WITH THE WILL POWER OF KING LEONIDAS AND THE GRACEFULNESS OF A MINOTAUR, I CAN SAY THIS COFFEE SHALL ASSIST IN CONQUERING THE UNIVERSE!!! ....or at least all the work you need to finish for the day. In short, good, strong coffee. 10/10 would date.

Espresso time!
The media could not be loaded. I've been trying out some new bean options lately when I saw Black Insomnia and decided to give it a try. Pretty much all I drink is espresso anymore. My experience is all pretty novice but I like to think I can appreciate a good bean. The roast is on the lighter side which I think is actually a medium roast. The beans aren't oily but still have a mild flavor definitely not bitter. In my opinion the flavor is quite balanced. Lighter roasted coffees have slightly more caffeine. Less roasting tends to preserve the compounds untouched. My understanding is the longer the roast, the more chemical transformation in the beans, including loss of caffeine. Lighter roasted beans are denser, and therefore pack more bean per volume that darker roasts, which are less dense. I think this is a mix of Arabica and Robusta beans but not sure. Robusta is known for high caffeine content. If you're looking for the biggest caffeine punch I recommend a drip coffee with no milk since the milk fats dampen the effects of caffeine. I'm happy with the results from my espresso!

High Hopes Dashed-Coffee is Old to Boot!
This is an amended review; I have lowered my rating to 1 star.We wanted to like this coffee; we REALLY did. We have been drinking Death Wish since it was a fledgling company. We love, love, love bold flavored, strong black coffee. I have drunk coffee for over 50 years, and I have had many, many different brands in many countries. As such, I feel qualified to express my opinion. We have had 3 pots of Black Insomnia. The first time we made it according to accepted ratios. It had virtually no taste. The second pot, we use a greater ratio of coffee to water with the same results. The third pot, we used the same increased amount of coffee but less water. The results were the same. Sadly, Black Insomnia had almost no flavor. This is NOT in comparison to Death Wish; it is in comparison to ANY coffee we have ever drunk. I'm sorry, Black Insomnia, your coffee just doesn't do it for us.Oh, it was roasted in 2018, so it is old as well. Beans are very dry, no oil at all. No wonder it has no flavor. Best if used by 2020! After reading other reviews, I see that this is common. We won't be purchasing again.

Good stuff
I’m a nurse so I know my coffee, heck I live on coffee. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical “ world’s strongest” bah...well for the first time in a long time one cup, mind you 16oz, kept me stepping through lunch time. I drink coffee like water all through the day but with this I simply can’t...go figure. That being said, it’s got a mellow flavor with no bitterness, smooth and tasty. The customer service and follow up after purchase lent a nice touch and made me feel they really do care about my business and opinion. Yep, I bought more and yep I told others.

Good flavor, some drawbacks.
I've been drinking coffee since I was 3, and like many others I have an amazing tolerance to caffeine. I really enjoy the taste of these beans, the coffee it makes has a strong, full bodied flavor, but not to bitter, or too sweet. It pairs great with a little sweet cream, but is enjoyable black. I've shared it with a handful of people, and they all liked it. Because of my need to get up in the morning, I can see myself buying more of this. Now the bad things: They sent me bag that expired the same month I got it. And the bag is not resealable, which is inconvenient. Also, I couldn't find pre ground coffee beans, so I can't buy any for my friend who doesn't have a coffee grinder. I think if you want to have coffee that gives you a bit of energy again, it's worth trying. My final rating is 7/10, and coming from an ugly teenage boy, a 7 is definitely high enough to be proud of. ;D
