The Power of Prayer
This book could use some slight editing that said the content is superior. These prayers will change your life and Adams commentary with them is excellent. He explains everything in an easy to understand meaningful way. I have incorporated these prayers into my daily prayer life. This book is a good starting point of having a meaningful relationship and prayer life with GOD. This is the second book I have read by Adam Houge and this one was also amazing. He is very easy to understand there is no guessing at what he means. This book I would recommend to any religious, spiritual, or lay person. I intend to read more of Adam's books. One star off for editing.David Papa Place

Key prayers for critical areas in the lives of Christians
Author Adam Houge also wears the hats of preacher and teacher and in these roles has compiled another one of his fine books. Along with 7 key prayers are the themes that encompass God's love, abiding and being led by the Spirit, walking in love, seeking truth, and our words. Because there are seven it makes an excellent daily devotional and because these are paramount to the Christian's success, this should be read until the themes become such a part of our lives. In the first prayer author Houge will share why this is by far so vital to us as Christians. When we understand the love of God in a Rhema way it propels us to want to be and do all we can for Christ. Minister Houge believes we need to be spiritually minded daily in thought and action. The examples brought forth will help propel you to want to do right while you learn and seek His voice for guidance.Because the Word of God is the plumb line of all truth you will be exhorted to pray before seeking out the Scriptures with an unbiased mind, and for the Holy Spirit, the Great Teacher to speak into your heart. Being an example for Christ, Hogue exhorts, means walking in love and being mindful of what comes out of our mouths. These scriptures, teachings, and prayers will fortify your relationship with the Lord. I recommend this e-book as the contents serve as a cornerstone to Christianity.

Tossed Up
I'm tossed up about this book, though not so much so that I will buy another one by the author. On the one hand, his ideas are inspirational: I LOVED the idea behind this book and the titles of others the author has published. On the other hand, three things interrupted my ability to enjoy the book and grow from his words: the poor grammar/editing, the mixed message, and the groveling tone.In the first case (grammatical matters), there were way too many for me to list. A few examples will suffice. At one point, the author writes: "Sometimes it's good to say sorry right away. Even if you feel only a little wrong, say sorry right away." First, a comma is missing after the first word. I can get beyond this minor mistake, but not the next one. He does the same thing twice: The "...say sorry..." Grammatically, he can say, "you're sorry" (adding a subject and verb to the action of being sorry), or he can put quotes around the word "sorry" to denote something said. On the same page, he has the biggest grammatical faux pas of all...the run-on sentence: "Don't worry about what the other person is doing, always be the first to bring unity." Two complete sentences joined with a comma is a run-on. He needs a grammatical signpost here, such as the conjunction "and," or a colon, or perhaps even a semi-colon. (Candidly, I can't recall the rules around the colon and its cousin -- the semi-colon. Still, I know enough to know I'd need to research the relationship were I to publish.) Finally, about 83% into the book, there's this gem: "Look for those who have downcast souls and life them up..." To be fair, he may have meant the metaphorical "lift" rather than a literal lifting up. If so, the word "life" needed quotes to (again) provide a sign to the reader. Otherwise, it's a typographical error. In this brief book, I had way too many of these errors to make the book readily readable. The grammar miscues caused me to spend too much time re-reading to make sure I gained the meaning. If the miscue is large enough, the meaning is lost.Mixed messaging: we're to be firm in our convictions; we're to provide direction in love; we're to back off if the another party grows offended. Perhaps this is my personal peeve, this burgeoning sense that we must be firm in our convictions AND back away from defending those convictions. Immorality grows easily because it requires no self-control or self-governance. If there is no similar backing away by the one who is committing an immoral act, then immorality moves forth another micro-inch. If we point this out, and the other party grows offended, do we leave the other party in his offense, or do we have the courage of our convictions and stand up for our beliefs? This books simply says, "Yes."The final part that I slogged through is God's response to the seven prayer(s). First, I wasn't expecting a response. What God says to me may not be the response that God gives to the author. He somewhat puts a period to the communication between God and reader by having a canned response. And those responses DO read as canned. In almost every one of them, the response reads as the textual equivalent of two teens passing notes back and forth between classes. Perhaps that's exactly what the author wanted, and he will leap with joy that it came through. Nevertheless, I guess I felt the author removes part of God's majesty in doing so. I "get" that the author wanted to make God more approachable. I just wouldn't expect God to be drunken-giddy in His response to my prayer. I "get" that God longs for me. I just wouldn't expect God to be groveling when I approach Him, though He will be joyful. Finally, I "get" that God wants to communicate with me. I just wouldn't expect God's responses to be replete with grammatical miscues.I know the book was rather inexpensive, so I suppose I shouldn't ask for much. But I do. High school grammar isn't too much to ask from a 99-cent book. The other two matters, on their own, would not have caused a review because one could state that they represent an opinion, and mine simply differs from the author's. However, the use of language goes to basic communication, and acknowledging the rules of grammar indicates a desire to communicate "with" (and not "to") one's reader. I responded because the grammar mistakes made me go bonkers, but I stayed wth the book because I hoped the messaging overcame the miscues. Obviously, that didn't happen.

Encouraging Prayers!
Love to read Adam's books. So much in depths of the word and most importantly, truth. We seem to get caught up with many other things that we forget what we were created for and I'm the first one to raise my hand and say I am at fault for doing it. Paul was such a role model, and obedience is the key. Jesus is the original pattern we must follow. Not easy to do but at least get as close as possible. In the end, God's parachute (Mercy and Grace) will always be there as long as we don't take advantage of it. Thank you Adam for letting God use you the way He does!
